If you love children and enjoy nurturing them through food, this is a unique opportunity you won't want to miss!
Fairville’s Food Program
Our food program nourishes children with a vegetarian diet and focus on whole, unprocessed and when available, organic foods. The food program not only promotes a healthy diet and expands their palate, but also allows students the opportunity to learn and practice table manners, mindfulness at mealtime, and how to conduct appropriate conversation for dining. Classes participate in cooking lessons with the Food Manager throughout the year. Children also participate in growing food in our school garden and take part in all aspects of the farm to table process by harvesting and consuming veggies they started from seed.
The Food Manager is responsible for overseeing Fairville’s food program, including planning, purchasing, preparing, and serving two snacks and lunch each day to our students. The Food Manager also prepares a salad as lunch for our staff. Menus must follow the guidelines of Fairville’s vegetarian, whole foods and organic policies. The Food Manager cleans and maintains the kitchen and eating areas, including laundering kitchen towels and napkins. Our school is committed to environmentally-friendly practices and minimizing waste to the greatest extent possible.
Food manager must be organized and capable of maintaining records of and adhering to children’s special food needs (i.e., food allergies and other health related issues).
All staff participate fully in the life of the school, and assists as needs arise with special events including the fall picnic, Board/Staff Retreat, parent coffees, and our annual spring Fun Fair. The Food Manager needs to remain alert to classroom needs and be willing to step in if a child or teacher needs temporary, short-term assistance.
