Fairville Friends School seeks a warm and caring Food Manager to join our school community for the 2021-22 school year. Fairville Friends School is a Quaker preschool serving approximately 90 children on our beautiful rural campus. Fairville’s Food Program
Our food program nourishes children with a vegetarian diet and focus on whole, unprocessed and when available, organic foods. The food program not only promotes a healthy diet and expands their palate, but also allows students the opportunity to learn and practice table manners, mindfulness at mealtime, and how to conduct appropriate conversation for dining. Classes participate in cooking lessons with the Food Manager throughout the year. Children also participate in growing food in our school garden and take part in all aspects of the farm to table process by harvesting and consuming veggies they started from seed.
Position Responsibilities
The Food Manager is responsible for overseeing Fairville’s food program, including planning, purchasing, preparing, and serving two snacks and lunch each day to our students. The Food Manager also prepares a salad as lunch for our staff. Menus must follow the guidelines of Fairville’s vegetarian, whole foods and organic policies. The Food Manager cleans and maintains the kitchen and eating areas, including laundering kitchen towels and napkins. Our school is committed to environmentally-friendly practices and minimizing waste to the greatest extent possible.
Food manager must be organized and capable of maintaining records of and adhering to children’s special food needs (i.e., food allergies and other health related issues).
All staff participate fully in the life of the school, and assists as needs arise with special events including the fall picnic, Board/Staff Retreat, parent coffees, and our annual spring Fun Fair. The Food Manager needs to remain alert to classroom needs and be willing to step in if a child or teacher needs temporary, short-term assistance.
Qualified candidates will have the following qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree preferred, G.E.D. or high school diploma required

Valid Chester County Food Handler’s Certificate required

Excitement about cooking and baking wholesome vegetarian foods for children

Comfort with small amount of gardening and composting

Love of and ease with young children
