Future Generations University is excited to announce the opening of a new opportunity to join their team. The University is seeking a highly motivated Coordinator to support the Appalachian Program. The Coordinator will provide administrative, marketing, and technical support to the Future Generations Appalachian Program. 

The Impact and Marketing Coordinator needs to have experience working in the Appalachian Region and with alternative approaches to community engagement. They must have a very strong command of written English. Formal training or direct experience working in community development and/or non-profit organizations is also desired. This job will require a flexible work schedule that may at times require attending meetings outside of normal business hours to accommodate deadlines or community meetings. It will also require a willingness to engage in regional travel—post COVID.

This position is full-time. This position is partially remote with a requirement to be at Future Generations University’s office in Franklin WV at least eight days per month. This residency requirement will be adjusted, as needed in accordance with University COVID-related policies. Permanent remote placement may be considered for exceptional candidates.

Interested candidates will be expected to perform the following functions: 

  • Serve as the Administrative coordinator for the Appalachian Team
    • Secretary for the Team Meetings
    • Perform administrative duties in support of the program
  • Manage Appalachian Team Outreach
    • Generate strategies for Program outreach including public engagement and earned media
    • Create content for social media platforms to support Communications Office
    • Generate communications tools to supplement campaigns, including event registration through Facebook events, Google Forms and Survey Monkey surveys, Zoom meetings and webinars, and other tools as needed.
  • Support performance monitoring and impact evaluation for sub-contracts – including generating written content for administrative and grant reports.
  • Assist other members of the team on an as needed basis including performing occasional field work.

 

Preferred Experience & Skills:

  • Creating and maintaining organization or business reporting systems
  • Creation, management, and maintenance of budgets and complex spreadsheets
  • Strong copywriting and editing skills
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to complete tasks and follow-through on
  • Knowledge of Google Drive, Zoom, Microsoft Office, Adobe, and Project Management platforms.
  • Knowledge of Monday.com a plus
  • Must be energetic, positive, imaginative, well-organized, and capable of functioning effectively in an independent environment and on a small team.
  • Must be able to lift 50lbs

Salary based on prior experience and the candidate's portfolio of skills.

The Appalachian Program at Future Generations University strives to successfully combine learning, research, and actions to lift up communities throughout the central Appalachian region (West Virginia, Virginia, Maryland, Kentucky, Ohio, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, and Tennessee). The majority of the program’s activities focus on improving local agricultural economies through a-typical season-extension and value-added opportunities, especially featuring maple and alternative tree syrups. Increasingly, work has also included furthering the Non-Timber Forest Products industry throughout the region. The Appalachian Team partners with state and local government agencies, land grant universities, and numerous non-profit organizations working in the region.
