About Your Role:
Dotdash’s Food and Drink Group is looking for a digitally savvy news editor to establish and run the news desk for The Spruce Eats, Serious Eats, Simply Recipes and Liquor.com. The right candidate will have a passion for the food and drinks spaces and assist in driving innovation for all of the brands, on-site and across platforms; implementing top-level news strategy; managing a team of freelance writers; running the daily news coverage process; and enforcing the brands’ voices to ultimately grow traffic and audience engagement.
About Your Contributions:
- Strategize around the news mission for each site - determine how each site’s news offerings differ, and how each adds context and service to its coverage.
- Manage daily news features and a team of freelancers producing approximately 20-25 news stories per week around industry news and events
- Review and copy edit all new articles to ensure best practices are being met
- Track performance and report on progress towards specific KPIs
- Manage news coverage and ongoing maintenance of news library
- Manage and enforce documentation around brand best practices and guidelines to ensure high-quality content
- Manage visual asset creation in conjunction with visual editors
- Collaborate closely with editorial leads and social editors from each brand
About You:
- You have at least 5 - 8 years experience in a related news role or newsroom environment
- You passionately follow the food and drink news cycles across various platforms
- You demonstrate knowledge of how to make a news story unique, and have a proven track record of not only covering the news but adding a contextual and/or serviceable angle
- You’re detail oriented, impeccably organized, deadline focused, creative, and eager to learn
- You feel comfortable working across well-established brands with distinct perspectives simultaneously
- You have well-honed writing chops and are happy to jump on coverage yourself when necessary
- You come with a stable of reliable writers and PR contacts in the food and drinks spaces
- You have operating experience with content management systems and web analytics tools, plus an appreciation for the value of a good SEO strategy
- You have or can develop a strong understanding of the various brands’ voices
- You have a Bachelor’s degree, preferably in journalism or communications
