Internship description Food System 6 (FS6) Communications Internship

FS6 works to catalyze these changes by identifying, connecting and supporting diverse entrepreneurs whose innovations have the potential to lead the way toward this new vision for the food system. FS6 provides tailored support and technical assistance to teams of both non-profit and for-profit entrepreneurs, and delivers valuable content and programming that facilitates the growth and development of entrepreneurs and others. Further, FS6’s programming builds connections between their early-stage entrepreneurs with, and helps to educate and inform investors, corporations, non-profits, foundations, educational institutions, government agencies and other stakeholders involved in the transformation of the food system.

 

Internship Description

FS6 is currently seeking a Communications Intern to support our online presence, voice, and educational content. We work with community change leaders and entrepreneurs to raise awareness around the solutions and opportunities in the current food system, and the importance of a holistic, systems thinking approach. Our social media platforms are key tools for engaging and growing our audience of supporters and partners. This internship is an opportunity to gain direct experience with the preeminent food system impact accelerator, using your distinct voice and perspectives, along with our organizational voice, in research, content and communications, content creation, and social and environmental justice in the food system.
 

DUTIES:

The intern will: 

  1. Create weekly content maps for social media platforms
  2. Design unique content using platforms like Adobe Spark and/or Adobe Photoshop. 
  3. Track social media engagement to identify successful campaigns and areas for improvement
  4. Research issues in the food system and track our portfolio for newsworthy content
  5. Post content across social media platforms using Buffer
  6. Grow engagement on a 1:1 level through social media (Facebook & Instagram)
  7. Manage FS6’s newsletter communication and campaigns 
  8. Work on your own food system research and leverage the FS6 platform to build your voice and/or to lift the voices of an audience you’d like to engage in food system change.

 
REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Desire to positively impact the planet and people is required to be successful in this position.
  • College or vocational student, or early stage career – with focus communications and marketing preferred; 
  • Excellent writing and communication skills
  • Experience working with social networking sites and familiarity with social network analytics, Adobe and social media management platforms required.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks
  • Must have reliable internet access and a functioning laptop suitable for this role

Hourly rate: $15 per hour 

Hours per week: approximately 15-20 hours per week

FLSA status: part-time, temporary, non-exempt employee

Location: remote / work from home

Travel: 0% / no travel required

Reports to: Communications Manager
