Company description Curio Spice Co. is a certified B Corp(R) dedicated to finding unique, organic spices around the world, sourcing them responsibly and bringing them together in artful blends. We operate a brick and mortar store and kitchen in Cambridge, MA where we sell pure spices, spice blends, and spice accessories, as well as teach classes and hold events.  We aim to create an intense sensory and educational experience for people who visit our shop and to bring them closer to the communities of farmers around the world who cultivate these flavors.  Our products are sold directly to customers online, used by chefs, and sold at other retail stores across North America. We are an independent, woman-owned benefit corporation. Job description The Front of House (FOH) Manager is responsible for managing Curio’s brick and mortar storefront operations and helping to grow the Curio Spice brand through successful customer interactions and delightful customer experiences. The FOH Manager oversees and assists with in-person customer service, the curbside pickup program, maintaining displays and rotating inventory, managing FOH staff, ensuring high standards of hospitality that translate to robust sales, and supporting projects that relate to brand development and awareness.
 

Position Type: Exempt FT  40+ hrs

Schedule: Wednesday - Sunday

Location: Cambridge, MA

 

Key Responsibilities and Tasks:

Manage Daily FOH Sales Operations:

  • Nurture Curio’s loyal customers and cultivate new return customers by creating an engaging and educational environment
  • Assist with retail display and promotions
  • Work with Owner and management to set and achieve sales goals and find creative ways to capture new customers and increase average order value
  • Assist with pricing, packaging and inventory for retail products
  • Oversee and assist with execution of events related to the storefront, including outdoor markets, promotional/collaborative events, etc.
     
Manage, Train and Develop FOH Staff and Reinforce Culture and Values
    • Manage front of house staff (“Spice Associates”) while leading by example with excellent hospitality
    • Be present on the floor to answer phones, take orders, provide feedback to Spice Associates, conduct trainings and contribute to projects
    • Recruiting, hire and schedule FOH staff 
    • Manage/delegate packing projects and organization of finished product

Maintain & Upkeep Physical Storefront 

    • Take a leadership role in maintaining cleanliness and organization of the shop; includes making and upkeeping the cleaning chart, and completing/delegating tasks as needed (e.g. washing cloths)
    • Identify equipment or items that need maintenance or fixing; assist with problem solving/resolution and/or manage repairs
    • Monitor waste, recycling and packaging use and programs; assist with improving our systems and maintaining our B-Corp status
       

Requirements

  • 2-5 years experience in hospitality 
  • Exceptional hospitality skills
  • Sales acumen
  • Confident public speaker with excellent communication skills
  • Excellent time management/organization
  • Ability to work independently on projects
  • Leadership and management acumen
  • Meticulous attention to detail
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs 
  • Ability to stand for up to 8 hours
 

We Prefer

  • Food/retail management experience
  • Customer service experience
  • ServeSafe certification
  • Experience with Shopify Point of Sale and eCommerce
  • Knowledge of/interest in cooking a variety of global cuisines
  • Knowledge of/interest in social & environmental responsibility in business
