At the counter, our cheese experts and mongers serve thousands of neighborhood regulars, commuters and tourists alike every year at our three locations –the Bleecker Street flagship retail experience, a beloved neighborhood fixture, our shop in Grand Central Terminal, and our new location in Long Island City.

For dining out, we operate two New York City restaurants: Murray’s Mac & Cheese, with fast casual fare, and Murray’s Cheese Bar, a sit-down restaurant featuring cheese flights and dishes by expert mongers and seasoned chefs. Our Murray’s Cheese Bar location opened in Spring 2020, moving to it’s new home in Long Island City.

For those eager to learn more, we offer robust education and events programming and, for those looking to serve more, we provide catering of expertly-crafted cheese boards and freshly-made foods. Job description

Position Summary:

The Copywriter is a critical role within Murray’s marketing team and is responsible for executing the voice of Murray’s Cheese brand for our products and across all consumer-facing communication channels including website, social channels, paid media, e-mail, and in-store retail. In this role, you will collaborate with various stakeholders in the organization: marketing, e-commerce, merchandising, and retail teams, as well as external partners and freelancers.

 

The Copywriter will partner closely with the marketing, merchandising, and digital teams to execute writing for new products descriptions and project briefs, crafting compelling details and storytelling for various deliverables. In this role you will bring to life the brand and product strategy to ensure consistent application of brand voice. You’ll write product descriptions with tasty details, e-mail copy aimed at increasing click-through rates, educational descriptions and content that inspire a purchase, catchy and clever social media and marketing campaign content, and much more. 

 

We’re in search of a true jack/jill-of-all-trades who’s comfortable writing anything from website copy to product copy, emails for new customer journeys and social media and ad copy. If you’re in the know when it comes to food, cheese, or managing a brand voice for various CPG brands, you may be a great fit!

 

 

Who You Are:

 

You’re an incredible storyteller who has a passion for food (and cheese!) and building brand loyalty amongst customers. You have experience executing a brand tone of voice and know how to utilize it in creative ways to influence sales and attract new customers. You’re a creative and tactical writer whose work is edited to perfection.  As an expert writer, you understand the need for independent research around products and concepts you don’t fully grasp and have a “can do” attitude to gather the details and information you need to write impactful copy.  You grasp the importance of SEO and keywords, and you understand the relationship between great copy and great design. You are a highly organized collaborator who enjoys working with a cross-functional and creative team. 

 

 

What You Do:

 

  • General (20%)
    1. Closely follow our Brand Voice Style Guide with accuracy and precision.
    2. Work closely with our creative team, understanding the importance of design and copy working together
    3. Execute on Murray’s content strategy, structuring content and copy to achieve business goals while creating a seamless user experience.
    4. Edit copywriting and execute editing processes that are meticulous and accurate. 
    5. Collaborate with key stakeholders as an editorial representative to produce strategic copy for new projects and offerings.

 

  • Product (30%)
    1. Write compelling product copy for our collection of items across categories (cheese, meat, specialty foods), as well as for our various business offerings. Concept naming conventions for our Cave Aged product line. 

 

  • Website & Email (40%)
    1. Execute website copy for landing pages, recipe content pages, and category pages, while implementing best practices for SEO and key words
    2. Write captivating email copy that boosts customer interaction and builds brand loyalty.
    3. Write Blog articles around our products and offerings to build SEO and engage our customers with thoughtful, creative, and educational content.

 

  • Social Media & Ads (10%)
    1. Craft clever and creative copy to assist social media posts & in-store marketing campaigns.
    2. Work with our Digital team on executing copy for paid media campaigns.

 

What We Need From You

 

  • 3-5 years of copywriting experience in-house for a brand or at a creative agency
  • Food, cheese, or CPG experience preferred
  • Passion and curiosity for cheese is a MUST! 
  • Demonstrated copywriting expertise across a variety of digital channels
  • Experience with SEO and use of integrating SEO into copy
  • Detail oriented and organized.   Able to be flexible and work under tight deadlines and changing priorities
  • Deep understanding of how to write across different digital channels and for different audiences, using channel best practices
  • Strong collaborative spirit and “can do” attitude
