Apricot Lane Farms is a 214-acre organic and biodynamic farm located 40 miles north of Los Angeles and 20 miles east of Ventura in Moorpark, CA. We are looking for a talented and experienced Holistic Poultry Specialist. The Holistic Poultry Specialist utilizes biodynamic practices in combination with pasture/livestock rotational practices for over 1,000 birds in several different mobile coops varying in age throughout the year from 1-day old chicks to 18-month-old adult chickens. Equally as important to caring for the chickens is caring for the land and soil on which they are raised. The Poultry Program consists of four components: Layer (Eggs), Roasters (Meat), Turkeys and Ducks. All are run in coordination with each other throughout the year to accommodate for scheduling and space requirements.

Job Duties

  • Assisting in the well-being/health of the chickens’/turkeys’/ducks’ and that their basic needs are met.

  • Assist with mobile coop moves during morning animal chores and other times as needed.

  • Putting up and taking down mobile fencing as needed.

  • Assist with the deep cleaning of all poultry coops.

  • Assist with the general maintenance of all poultry coops.

  • Assist with making sure coop doors are shut at end of day (chicken safety).

  • Assist with egg collection.

  • Assist with the egg production of approx. 150-400 eggs daily which includes: hand washing,

    weighing, sorting, prepping, and boxing eggs for sale.

  • Assist with selling eggs to staff on a weekly basis.

  • Assist with the preparation of egg boxes for market: stamping, etc.

  • Assist with chicken processing.

Background and Experience

  • Excellent communication skills
  • Detail-oriented and well-organized.
  • Passion for livestock/animals and the land/animals/ecosystem (especially soil!)
  • 6+ months farm experience with livestock
  • 6+ months farm experience
  • 6+ months farm experience with Organic Animal Husbandry (Preferred)
  • Animal Welfare Certification (Preferred)
  • Experience with tractor (Preferred)
  • Comfortable with G-Suite - Google Docs, Sheets, Calendar, etc.
  • Must live within 30 minutes of the Farm

Schedule

  • Mondays – Fridays 6:30am – 3:00pm
