Position Overview

The Dairy Foods Plant Production and Operations Manager coordinates dairy product operational activities at the MSU Dairy Foods Plant (DFP), provides operational support to external food manufacturers at the Food Processing Innovation Center (FPIC), and provides operational support and technical assistance to emerging food entrepreneurs at the Food, Agriculture, Research & Manufacturing (FARM) business incubator.

 

You will provide lead coordination in the production of saleable ice cream and cheese products, while providing oversight to the sanitation and cleaning of the plant, including maintaining health and safety standards to ensure compliance with MSU, state and federal rules and regulations, including documentation of compliance. You will be responsible for maintaining Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures, Good Manufacturing Practices and Standard Operating Procedures to ensure the production of safe food. In addition to forecasting needs and ordering supplies to maintain proper ingredient inventories, you will be responsible for maintaining production and accounting records and generating reports. You will provide first-level supervision over student employees and will manage the hiring, training and scheduling.

 

In support of the MSU FPIC located in Okemos, you will train on the equipment and procedures of the FPIC and become a back-up to the FPIC Operations Manager. Additionally, you will be available to assist with production needs at the FPIC when there is no activity at the DFP.

 

In support of the FARM business incubator located at Muskegon Community College, you will train on the equipment and procedures of the FARM and become a back-up to the FARM Manager. Additionally, you will be available to assist with production needs of the FARM when there is no activity at the DFP.

 

This position will be based on the campus of Michigan State University and will require travel between campus and the other facilities, as needed.

 

Minimum Qualifications (see full description for complete list of requirements)

  • Knowledge equivalent to a four-year college degree program in engineering, packaging, food science, business or related field.
  • Five to eight years of work experience in production management, manufacturing plant management or process management for a manufacturing facility.
