Job description

The Senior Human Resources Manager will direct the routine functions of the Human Resources function for the Stone Barns Center including, but not limited to, interviewing and hiring staff, administering pay, benefits, and leave, enforcing company policies and practices, executing training and performance management programs, and managing workplace safety programs. This role is expected to effectively partner with functional leaders within Stone Barns Center and strongly represent, as well as promote, the organization’s values and culture.

The Senior Human Resources Manager will play a critical role in implementing strategic goals of the organization. They will have a deep collaboration with the Director of Human Resources and Talent Development to ensure the success of the team as a whole. 

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Recruits, interviews, hires, and trains new staff in the department.
  • Oversees the daily workflow of the department.
  • Provides constructive and timely performance evaluations.
  • Handles discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy. 
  • Manages health and safety policies and implementation.
 

Responsibilities:

Strategy 

  • A partner in understanding and executing the organization’s human resource and talent strategies particularly as they relate to current and future talent needs, recruiting, retention, and succession planning.
  • Analyzes trends in compensation and benefits; researches and proposes competitive base and incentive pay programs to ensure the organization attracts and retains top talent. 
  • Oversee and assist with learning and development programs initiatives that provide internal development opportunities for employees.
  • Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law.
  • Communicates information appropriately and effectively to all levels of the organization, including senior leaders, both in presentation and in writing.

  • Participate in continuous process improvement for all and/or various HR functions.

HR Systems

  • Provides support and guidance to HR generalist, management, and other staff when complex, specialized, and sensitive questions and issues arise; may be required to administer and execute routine tasks in delicate circumstances such as providing reasonable accommodations, investigating allegations of wrongdoing, and terminations.
  • Manages the talent acquisition process, which may include recruitment, interviewing, and hiring of qualified coordinator and manager level job applicants; collaborates with departmental managers to understand skills and competencies required for openings.
  • Point person for payroll processing, including: bi-weekly and semi-monthly updates to employee files, bonus/incentive pay, inputting exceptions, tracking vacation/sick pay, inputting exceptions, hourly employee timecard validations, and benefit changes.
  • Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance; lead on payroll and any compliance reporting (Form 5500 Series, EEO-1, ACA, etc.)
  • Manages the implementation and execution of health and safety protocols including; COVID-19 requirements, OnTask software, yearly wellness events (i.e. flu shot clinic).
  • Responsible for oversight of the HRIS system in partnership with vendors. Manages HR processes related to HRIS including the goals assessment process, data collection and reporting, and system updates.
  • Acts as interim leader in the absence of the Director of Human Resources.
  • Assists with employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations.
  • Maintain employee confidence by keeping all information and consults confidential. 

Benefits

  • Collaborate with vendors and finance on benefit plan administration redesign and renewal, but also FSA, 401k, 457b plans. 
  • Responsible for disability and workers’ compensation records; and audit, reconciliation and payment processing for all benefit providers.
  • Assist in developing annual HR operating budgets and long-range plans specifically related to benefits and compensation needs, providing input to organizational needs. 
 

Desired Skills/Knowledge

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field required
  • A minimum of two years of human resource management experience is required
  • Knowledge of an additional language is required, preferably Spanish
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate
  • Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality
  • Thorough knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software
  • Proficiency with or the ability to quickly learn the organization’s HRIS and talent management systems

Physical Requirements

This position requires long periods of time at a desk on a computer and being able to lift 15 pounds at a time. In addition, this person must be able to access and navigate each department at the organization's facilities.
