Job description

The Cambridge Center for Adult Education, located in Harvard Square, is currently seeking part-time instructors to teach a variety of cooking, pastry, baking and beverage classes for adults, beginning in April, 2022. 

We are looking to add several new and exciting classes to our curriculum and are open to collaborating with qualified and exceptional individuals to design new classes pertaining to their expertise and interests. CCAE has four terms per year (winter, spring, summer and fall) with instructors teaching 1-3 classes per term on average. Most classes are one-night events and are scheduled on weekday evenings or weekend afternoons/evenings. Classes are generally 2-3 hours in length. Interdisciplinary classes which focus on cultural and historical aspects of food in addition to technique are highly encouraged. If you are interested in teaching a specific class that is not listed below, please include a 4-5 sentence course description in your letter of interest. The list below includes general and specific types of classes we are seeking to introduce into our program: 

General Cooking Classes:

  • Basic Culinary Skills and Techniques
  • Protein Fundamentals (chicken, steak etc.)
  • Baking and Pastry (cakes, cookies, macarons, tarts, pies, donuts, chocolate molding/tempering etc.)
  • Sauces
  • Knife Skills 

Specific Cooking Classes:

  • Afghan Cuisine
  • Korean Cuisine
  • Georgian Cuisine
  • Egyptian Cuisine
  • Ethiopian Cuisine
  • Vegetarian Protein
  • Baking with Rye
  • Sourdough Bread
  • Olive Oil Tasting

Wine, Beer and Spirits: 

  • Mezcal Tasting 
  • Basic Mixology 
  • Home Brewing
  • Tiki Cocktails

Miscellaneous: 

  • Food Writing
  • Food Styling

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrable experience and success in education within the food and beverage sector.
  • An ability to engage a diverse demographic of adult learners.
  • A culinary arts degree or 3+ years in a food related educational field is preferred.
Compensation this position is : hourly, $20/hr + Application instructions
