FRESHFARM is a non-profit that promotes sustainable agriculture and improves food access and equity in the Mid-Atlantic Region. FoodPrints is FRESHFARM’s food education program that aims to make positive changes in what children and their families eat by giving them hands-on experiences with growing, harvesting, cooking and eating nutritious, fresh, local foods in season. FoodPrints partners with public schools and early childhood education centers across DC to provide food education and access to build positive relationships with nutritious food and positively impact long-term health, social-emotional and academic outcomes. 

Job description

WHO YOU ARE:

  • Proficient with project management; you excel using strong organizational skills and attention to detail to ensure programs are running smoothly and meeting requirements
  • A flexible team leader with experience working with youth, ideally in an academic setting or doing outdoor, science, environmental, or place-based learning using student-centered learning approaches
  • Passionate about programs that share knowledge about fresh, local, nutritious, sustainable food
 

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

The FoodPrints (FP) Out of School Time (OST) Grant Manager & Lead Teacher is responsible for three areas of work:

 

Grant Management and Administration (50%)

  • Distill and track all OST funding requirements, create accessible shared tracking systems, communicate requirements, and integrate requirements into the program plan in coordination with the Director of Curriculum & Instruction
  • Lead communication with the OST office and use the existing OST online tracking and reporting system (CitySpan) to upload all required data and paperwork
  • Manage all financial documentation for OST grant in coordination with the FoodPrints Finance & Grants Manager
 

Food and Garden Education Teaching (25%)

  • Use the FoodPrints curriculum and program model to plan and teach FoodPrints afterschool and summer OST programming at multiple school locations
  • Communicate with the schools’ administrations and afterschool providers to schedule sessions
  • Prepare materials for each lesson, clean up after each session, and complete required documentation
 

Program Management (25%)

  • Create OST staffing and programming plan for the afterschool FoodPrints team in coordination with the Director of Curriculum & Instruction 
  • Create systems to support FoodPrints  OST teachers to acquire supplies, administer OST programming, and provide all necessary OST documentation
  • Coordinate with the FoodPrints Communications team on evaluation and communications needs

THE DETAILS:

  • This is a full-time, exempt position compensated with an annual salary of $58,000-$60,000.
  • This employee will be expected to work 40 hours Monday through Friday, including teaching between 3:30 and 6:00PM two to four days per week, and occasional evenings or weekend events.
  • Working locations include assigned schools as well as the FRESHFARM office (655 New York Ave NW). Some work can also be done from home.
  • All full-time employees receive 72 hours annual sick leave, 11 annual holidays (8 hours each), 3 floating holidays per year, and 80 hours of annual vacation leave (with increases after 3 years of service). Typically, FRESHFARM offices close for a 1 week winter break, which includes paid time-off for salaried employees.
  • Eligible to enroll in 100% employer covered healthcare as well as generous employer coverage for vision and dental, in accordance with company policy.
  • Access to a laptop or chromebook provided, if needed.
 

PHYSICAL & OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • DCPS clearance (free of charge; FoodPrints will provide support to navigate this process as needed)
  • Ability to lift, transport, or move objects up to 35 lbs, work outdoors and in various weather conditions
  • Access to a personal smartphone is required
  • 1-3 years’ experience with grant and program management and garden and/or food education, or related fields, including environmental education, place-based education, science, or outdoor learning 
  • Experience supporting colleagues in implementing educational programming
  • Detail-oriented and highly organized, with ability to translate programming parameters and grant-funding constraints into strategic plans
  • Strong communication skills, and ability to communicate with people of diverse backgrounds 
  • Skilled with Google Suite, including formulas and conditional formatting in spreadsheets
