As of June 2021, TACP has relocated into a newly-built, 8,000-square-foot retail store and commercial kitchen. The greatly expanded retail space and production kitchen has state-of-the-art equipment and a spacious layout.

Job description

The Director of Retail Operations (DRO) will report directly to the Culinary Director, Mona Talbott. The DRO works in conjunction with TACP’s Management Team, including the Managing Partner (Kate Arding), Culinary Director, Executive Chef, and Financial Controller, to create a smooth and profitable operation. The DRO will lead the Retail team and ensure that all standards are being met as set forth by the Managing Partner and the Culinary Director.

The DRO will be an exceptional operational leader who is extremely well versed in the daily operation of the store and familiar with all standard operating procedures. The DRO directs and organizes the store’s retail operations to maximize quality, excellent customer service, profitability and efficiency. The DRO will analyze key performance indicators in conjunction with the Management Team and set retail strategy accordingly.

  • Salary Range: $75-90K depending on experience, plus performance-related bonus

RESPONSIBILITIES

General Duties

  • Oversee all aspects of daily retail store operation
  • Supervise individual retail department head managers
  • Achieve and exceed profit goals while maintaining expense controls and increasing sales
  • Oversee store merchandising, inventory management, stock rotation, department ordering and receiving, waste and returns
  • In collaboration with retail team, set up the store, serve and assist customers, and pack prepared foods
  • Manage merchandise and create product lists, identifying roll-outs and phase-outs of products
  • Work with each departmental head to understand operational needs and boost interdepartmental collaboration
  • Lead communication between management and retail teams

Customer Service

  • Creates a fun, friendly and inviting environment for customers
  • Documents, investigates and resolves retail employee and customer incidents
  • Ensures guest experience standards are consistently met

Financial & Administrative Duties

  • Develop and maintain standard operating procedures and systems for retail departments
  • Oversee and execute all the necessary reporting and admin duties such as invoices and payroll
  • Maintain Square and digital scale product databases
  • Develop strategies around pricing, margins, merchandising, and promotions
  • Prepare weekly updates on the retail department for management team
  • Analyze departmental financial data and review with management team
  • Manage productivity of team members to maximize profitability and minimize shrink
  • Ensure that pricing is accurate and that all products/sub departments are meeting margin goals

Human Resources

  • Manage retail employee hiring, onboarding, and terminations in conjunction with HR
  • Manage all scheduling for the retail staff and manages retail labor budget
  • Oversee retail employee performance goals and provide ongoing coaching to train, cross-train and develop retail employees
  • Ensure all documents and procedures regarding retail staff development (e.g. evaluations, training documents, disciplinary procedure) are provided to staff in a timely manner
  • Able to lead effectively while treating all employees with care and respect

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of retail food or grocery management experience in a high-volume, fast-paced environment
  • Experience with high-end specialty foods strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated track record of workplace achievement in the selection, coaching and development of employees
  • Proven ability to drive customer satisfaction, financial performance and employee satisfaction
  • Excellent interpersonal and time management skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Exceptional leadership, motivational and team-building skills
  • Demonstrated problem-solving, organizational, analytical and business management skills
  • Availability to work onsite with a flexible schedule, weekends and holidays, as well as occasional evenings if required
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and spend up to 8 hours walking or standing in a retail environment
  • Ability to operate equipment such as a slicer, espresso machine, scales, and cash register as needed
  • Food Handler’s Certification at Manager level
  • Advanced proficiency in Square, Shopify, inventory management systems, MS Office and Mac systems
