About us:

Bahner Farm is a family farm producing MOFGA certified organic producing certified organic mixed vegetables. We farm on about 12 acres of fields, with about 6 in vegetable production and 6 in cover crops each year. In addition, we grow fresh greens all winter in unheated hoophouses and 2 heated greenhouses. We are located on Rt. 3, only 5 miles from Belfast.

Our primary operation is mixed vegetable production for our farmstand, a multi farm CSA and wholesale accounts. We also grow annual garden seedlings that we sell through our farmstand in the spring and early summer. We typically have 6-8 employees April-October, and 3-4 employees November-March. 

We love hanging out and working with our employees. We host monthly farm crew dinners so we can all relax and socialize a bit outside of work.

Overall job description:

Independently washing produce brought in from harvest

Pack produce for sale, prep for deliveries.

Keep the wash area and storage coolers clean and organized

 

Daily tasks:

Assist in harvest with farm crew

Unload produce from trucks, with farm crew

Implement daily cleaning and sanitation 

Wash produce according to SOPs

Pack produce according to destination (Different practices for wholesale versus retail, etc)

 

This job changes from season to season. 

 

November-April:

Harvesting, washing and packing baby greens and microgreens from our greenhouses for sale to wholesale customers. Packing greens and storage vegetables for sale to our online farmstand customers. Outside of those tasks, there will be lots of seeding in the greenhouse to round out hours in these months.

 

May-October:

Harvesting, washing and packing a mix of produce for wholesale accounts and farmstand sales. Depending on the point in the season, washing may take almost all of your hours. Outside of those tasks, there will be a large variety of farm tasks to round out hours. Christa will also take on some of the washing hours on days when there is too much for one person.

 

Approximate hours per week:

Nov, Dec, January, Feb: 27 hours/week: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday 8:00-5:00 

March - April: 40 hours/week: M-F 8:00-4:00

May: 40 hours/week, 7:00-5:00, M, W, Th, F 

June, July, August: 40 hours/week, 7:00-5:00, M, W, Th, F 

Oct: 40 hours/week: M-F 8:00-4:00
