JOB DESCRIPTION
OVERVIEW: Riverwards Produce is a produce-focused market in Philadelphia
The Produce Buyer position at Riverwards Produce takes ownership and initiative of the Produce department. They serve as the primary executor of buying plans outlined by the Produce Manager. They work closely with the Produce Manager to set department priorities, practices, and systems. The Produce Buyer determines the product set and coordinates the procurement of all products in the Produce department. They also maintain a well-stocked and clean sales floor, receive and process deliveries, and organize produce back stock. They have an expert knowledge of produce and produce uses, and can help customers and staff with inquiries and suggestions.
Reports to: Produce Manager
Responsibilities:
- Coordinates the purchase and procurement of the week’s produce supply
- Collaborates with the Produce Manager and Store Manager to create seasonal and rotating merchandising plans
- Initiates merchandising and set rotations
- Ensures that all Produce items are properly entered into the POS system and available for purchase
- Serves as the primary contact for Produce vendor relationships
- Collaborates with the Produce Manager to set the department’s product mix
- Ensures invoices are notated correctly and promptly submitted
- Maintains expert knowledge of Revel and POS operations
- Performs floor duties including receiving, restocking, and cleaning
- Maintains department profit margin goals
- Participates in Produce department communications and updates
- Drives store vehicles to obtain Floral and Produce orders
Requirements:
- Experience receiving, processing, and merchandising produce in a retail setting
- Experience purchasing produce in a retail or service environment
- Passion for the principles of sustainable food and farming
- Flexibility in scheduling, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Maintains an active drivers’ license with a clean driving record
- A desire to greet and engage customers and foster relationships with regulars
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs and spend 8+ hours standing and walking up and down stairs
- A diligent approach to safety and sanitation. ServSafe (or analogous) certification a plus
- A team player with a willingness to jump in and help with all tasks
- Ability to roll with the punches of a rapidly growing start-up business
COMPENSATION: This position is full-time. This position is hourly and compensation is dependent upon experience. Riverwards Produce provides a generous employee discount on all store products, paid parental leave, opportunities for career growth, and flexible scheduling.
