Job description

HOUSING PROVIDED! The Food Services Manager is responsible for coordinating, managing production of, and serving nutritious breakfasts, lunches, and dinners to clients, residents and staff on the KSS campus. This position has a variable schedule driven by guest counts and program workloads and requires the ability to receive direction and act upon it, while having positive guest service as a focus. The Food Services Manager is also responsible for tracking the budget, making the staff schedule for the kitchen, training kitchen staff and instructors, and maintaining a kitchen which meets all health and safety standards. 

Our ideal candidate will focus on the following essential duties and responsibilities:

Preparing and Serving Meals

  • Prepare and serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner to clients, residents, and staff of KSS according to the Program schedule, following the Colorado Health Department standards for proper handling and storage of food and supplies;
  • Plan, prepare, and manage the delivery of all food service requirements at the on-campus dining hall and at off-site programming locations;
  • Provide new insight into menus and serving procedures to continue to build up KSS’s foundation of quality food service;
  • Work within the food services budget as set forth by the Operations Manager and in collaboration with the Program Managers;

Kitchen Management

  • Actively maintain and oversee a high level of cleanliness in the kitchen and dining area including washing dishes and mopping floors, and maintaining a rotating cleaning schedule for the kitchen team;
  • When breaks in the Program schedule allow, deep clean the kitchen and take inventory;
  • Ensure department operates to Colorado Retail Food Establishment Rules and Regulations, and Colorado Child Care Licensure;

Ordering and Managing Invoices

  • Keep a suitable inventory of food and service supplies and make orders as necessary;
  • Receive food and beverage shipments, ensure shipments match orders, and resolve errors with vendors;
  • Process and code invoices for payment;

Staff Management

  • Manage all elements of efficient and effective food service at KSS , including hiring, training, scheduling, and coaching employees;
  • Manage the kitchen hours and staff so shifts are covered to prepare and cook breakfast, lunch, and dinner;
  • Maintain accurate employee time keeping online and and approve time cards for employees;


Client Interaction and Customer Service

  • Work with clients to understand needs for food allergy or dietary needs accommodations to ensure we can effectively meet specific needs;
  • Attend KSS staff meetings as food service representative and communicate necessary information back to food service staff;
  • Other duties as assigned.

Our required education, experience, and certifications:

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in food prep and safety;
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification or ability to obtain within 60 days of employment;
  • 21+ years old with a clean driving record
  • Food Protection Manager certification.

In addition to the above required talents, our ideal candidate will have these preferred skillsets:

  • Completion of a Culinary Degree or apprenticeship preferred;
  • Experience as a Sous Chef preferred;
