Assistant Farm Manager Sun Circle Farm

  • Date Posted January 20, 2022
  • Location Palmer, AK
  • Category Agriculture
  • Job type Summer Job
Company description

Sun Circle Farm is an intensive Certified Organic woman-owned and -run farm in beautiful Palmer, Alaska.  2022 will be our 12th year in production.  We grow multiple successions of vegetable and flower crops on about 2 1/2 acres including several high tunnels.  We use techniques such as crop rotation and year-long fallow, green manure and cover crops, and other innovative small ag tools and techniques like occultation, flame weeding, and minimal tillage, all with an eye to soil health as the basis of our success.

Our produce and bouquets are offered through a CSA (both a Flower share and a Vegetable share), two large weekend markets in Anchorage, a thriving Farm Stand, and sales to local restaurants.  We grow a lot of cut greens for market and restaurant sales.  We have been putting more and more focus into our flower production over the past few years and are venturing slowly into events and special orders.

We strive for a positive, supportive work environment with plenty of opportunity for on-the-job learning.

Looking for someone with demonstrated experience with small scale sustainable agriculture (3 years+) as well as experience with managing a crew.  Some experience with small machinery such as walking tractors and flame weeders is preferred.  The ideal candidate will have a positive attitude, enjoy physical work, and be intellectually curious.
