Kitchn is looking for a Senior Studio Food Editor to join the team! The Senior Studio Food Editor is a cross-departmental role that’s instrumental in creating food content and bringing that content to life in our New York City studio. The Senior Studio Food Editor sits on the Edit team and reports to the Recipe Director, but works closely and collaboratively with the Photo team as well as the Video team. The Senior Studio Food Editor will cook and style recipes for photography and also work with the video team as on-camera talent, demonstrating recipes and other food content. This position manages the Studio Food Editor.
Accountabilities:
- Concept and pitch recipes and other food content that brilliantly deliver on Kitchn’s mission and brand
- Cook and style food for photography and video shoots
- Manage the growth and development of our Studio Food Editor
- Collaborate with the Photo team to create the monthly shoot schedule
- Supervise ordering groceries, kitchen staples, and any necessary equipment for in-house food photography and video shoots
- Maintain studio kitchen cleanliness and organization
- As on-camera talent, demonstrate an ability for pulling out a particular tip or technique and showing it in a clear, compelling way
- Develop, write, and cross-test recipes and posts as needed
- Assist with special projects and administrative tasks as needed
Experience/Skills:
- Minimum of 5 years food styling experience
- Management experience a plus but not required
- Test kitchen experience a plus
- A broad grasp of food content that goes beyond recipes to creative and clever ways of inspiring and teaching a wide spectrum of people to cook
- Experience working as on-camera talent for social media platforms
- Eye for current trends in food, especially for a national audience
- Strong, distinctive writing style, with an ability to write for Kitchn's audience
- Proficient in developing, writing, and testing recipes
- Ability to balance multiple priorities, and to quickly adjust strategy and execution in the face of new information
- Highly organized and detail-oriented
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to be on their feet, prepping and shooting for 8 hours/day, 3 times per week
- Ability to work from office studio 3x per week (COVID-19 vaccination required)
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent
- Culinary school and test kitchen experience a definite plus
- Position located in our New York City office
