Job description

Position Summary

  • Full-time, hourly position (35-50 hours per week)
  • The work schedule is irregular with some seasonal variation. Shifts that begin at 5am and shifts that end at 6pm should be expected (not on the same day).
  • No cheesemaking experience necessary.
  • $16-$18 per hour plus bonus potential.

 

 The Sequatchie Cove Creamery (SCC) Cheesemaking Assistant aids in the process of cheesemaking, affinage (cheese aging), cleaning, and record keeping under the direction of the Cheesemaking Lead.

 

 Performance Expectations – Essential Functions

  • Assists in the production of all SCC cheeses.
  • Assists in the affinage (aging) process.
  • Arrives on time for all shifts and meetings.
  • Follows cleaning and sanitation procedures.
  • Participates in multidisciplinary HAACP/food safety team.
  • Receives a 3rd party food safety training certificate.  At the direction of SCC within 1 year of start date.
  • Is knowledgeable of the SCC record-keeping systems and how to use tablets and computers for entry.
  • Understands and maintains Good Manufacturing Practices according to SCC.
  • Seeks manager/supervisor assistance when appropriate.
  • Follows staff guidelines.
  • Is knowledgeable of the defining characteristics for each SCC cheese.
  • Can work without supervision for extended periods.
  • Finds a way to stay productive during slow seasons.

 

Non-Essential Functions

  • Participates in gainshare, works to help the team achieve goals.
  • Attends farm and creamery functions and events.
  • Train other staff members.

 

 Physical Demands

  • Must be able to safely lift up to 50lbs.
  • Must be able to work in cold/damp as well as hot/humid conditions.
  • Bending, stooping, walking, and standing for long periods of time.
  • Repetitive lifting, scooping, brushing, flipping and general handling of cheese.
