Farm Chef Our Table Cooperative

  • Date Posted May 18, 2022
  • Location Sherwood, OR
  • Category Agriculture / Culinary
  • Job type Full-Time
Company description

Our Table is a cooperative of farmers, producers and consumers working together to create a community based food system. The farm is located 15 miles south of Portland and grows a mix of produce for our own on-farm grocery store and kitchen, a CSA, restaurants, and small grocery stores in and around the greater Portland area. We grow vegetables, berries, flowers, tree-fruit and bees year-round.

Job description

Are you a creative and excellent chef looking for something new and different? Perhaps you're tired of working late nights at a restaurant. Perhaps you're looking for a more authentic connection to real ingredients grown on real local farms. Perhaps you'd like to put your hands in the soil that grows the food you want to cook…

We have a job for you! Our Table Cooperative is looking for a full-time farm chef for our farm in Sherwood, Oregon. Just 15 miles south of Portland, our 60-acre farm grows a large variety of organic vegetables and fruit. As a farm cooperative, we source the things we don't grow on our own farm from other Oregon farmers and food artisans who share our ethics and commitment to quality. We have a commercial kitchen facility and grocery store on our farm and your job will be to lead a team of staff to explore the endless possibilities of combining creative cooking with the freshest and best ingredients. At an everyday level, your job will involve creating and producing a whole range of prepared foods for sale at our farm store deli -- everything from season-extending preserves and jellies to full meals that use the bounty of the fields in creative ways. There will be times when the bounty of the fields will require a frenzy of activity to "put up". You’ll have long discussions with customers on the merits of chicken feet in stock and opportunities to impress the kids attending farm camp on pulling fresh mozzarella without burning your hands. Friday evenings in the summer will find you at our wood-fired oven tossing pizzas for Happy Hour. You’ll also have the opportunity to showcase the best of Oregon’s harvest at a variety of private and ticketed farm-to-table style events throughout the year. The job involves a wide range of tasks in a dynamic and ever-changing environment. All of this in a worker-owned cooperative situated on a beautiful and vibrant farm.

If you are both a self-directed and collaborative chef who is hankering for something more meaningful, come join us as we collectively create a whole new food culture -- one that is based on authentic relationships and treats people, animals, and soil with the respect they deserve. One that puts food on our table.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Excellent and wide-ranging cooking skills including baking. Canning skills a plus.
  • Demonstrated leadership in professional kitchen/cooking settings.
  • Knowledge and familiarity with seasonal variations in Pacific NW ingredients a plus.
  • Creativity and entrepreneurial spirit -- a willingness to do whatever it takes.
  • Willingness to work in a highly collaborative environment.
  • Current Food Handlers Card.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to develop and complete small batch recipes.

  • Must be able to meet physical requirements of standing, twisting, bending, repetitive motion and lifting 10-40lbs regularly.
  • Ability to commute to Sherwood, Oregon.

MEMBERSHIP IN COOPERATIVE
