Chapel Hill Creamery milks a small herd of Jersey cows, producing milk for our cheesemaking facility.  We have been milking Jersey cows and making cheese for 20 years, and have won numerous awards for milk quality as well as for our cheeses.  We grow a variety of perennial and annual grasses, legumes, and forbs for nutrition for the animals and for soil building as well.  We are currently in the process of transitioning to a once/day milking, and increasing our reliance on our pastures as the feed source for the herd.  We also feed pigs on our whey from cheesemaking, and sell our pork locally.

We are Animal Welfare Approved by A Greener World, and we are in the process of putting in place our Regenerative Farm plan for certification.  We also are a member of the Orange County Living Wage program.

We have a leadership position open for Herd Manager.  Qualifications include previous dairy experience such as milking, breeding, calf rearing, and general dairy health care.  Tractor, skid steer, and other mechanical experience will be required.  Lifting and physical farm work is essential to this position.  Experience on a grazing farm is a plus.  The position will be salaried, and on farm housing is potentially available.  Benefits include vacation time, product discount program, and profit sharing retirement program.
