Job description

Martindale’s is offering an excellent opportunity for a zealous individual who has the energy and desire to establish a new full-service kitchen that provides prepared natural and organic foods in a well-established community store.

The Kitchen Assistant Manager reports to the Chef Leader and/or Store Manager. This full-time position is ideal for someone who wants to hone their culinary skills while building and growing a burgeoning health and wellness kitchen operation and has a natural interest in helping others develop their God-given talents while giving beneficial direction to a new team of almost a half dozen prep-kitchen staff. We have a newly designed new prep-kitchen with brand new equipment.

Martindale’s is widely recognized as being the oldest natural food store in America, having been founded in 1869. Our natural food market has been serving the local community for over 150 years and even offered a juice bar in the 1930’s.

Qualified candidates should have:

  • Cooking/culinary experience
  • Time management skills to balance multiple priorities.
  • Excellent communication skills and readily establishes a good rapport with others.
  • Familiarity with the natural and organic foods industry.
  • Computer skills including basic proficiency in Microsoft Excel & Word.

Job Responsibilities for the Deli Include:

  • Following kitchen protocol and procedures for good product margins, pricing, production and effective organization.
  • Writing and developing menus, their ingredient tags and working with team members to execute, promote and drive sales.
  • Establishing and working with local purveyors in order to offer quality products to our customer.
  • Maintaining active Cooking & Baking operations & Juice Bar (future project) offerings and creating new, healthy, innovative products to promote sales growth.
  • Offering excellent customer service and maintaining overall product appearances to promote customer satisfaction.
  • Establishing a good rapport with customers and pursuing good & effective personnel management with each one of the team.
  • Directing and coordinating kitchen staff in all functions on a daily basis to increase and maintain internal rapport/morale.
  • Maintaining and overseeing the ordering of supplies and food.
  • Resolving food quality issues & reduce food waste in the kitchen through menu creation, donation and composting.
  • Accomplishing the kitchen’s goals in all functional areas including the cold open case, lunch & dinner orders, bakery, catering (future project) and seasonal promotions development.
  • Overseeing kitchen procedures and operation for appropriate changes as business needs evolve and change.

Benefits:

  • This position starts with a thirty-day trial/probationary period. A permanent full-time position will be offered or denied at the end of the thirty-day period at the discretion of the Chef Leader and/or Management Team.
  • After three months will be eligible for pay increase.
  • Upon hiring will be eligible for employee discount.
  • Will be eligible for three paid Holidays (New Year’s Day, Thanksgiving & Christmas).
  • After 1 year, will have earned and will be eligible for 1 week vacation.
Compensation this position is : hourly, $20/hr + Application instructions
