Job description

The Senior Program Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and supervising, or assisting Program Manager with coordination and supervision, of nutrition educators. The Senior Program Coordinator oversees nutrition education and PSE (Policy, Systems, Environment) programming initiatives within multiple adult community settings. The coordinator provides general support and assistance to program managers, development and implementation of project activities and deliverables. Program goals include increasing knowledge of nutrition and physical activity to help maintain wellness and avoid chronic diseases. Programs emphasize nutrition, wellness, chronic disease management, food safety, food systems and/or gardening or similar.  Primary CACFP (Child and Adult Care Food Program) responsibilities include program implementation, training, and technical assistance.

Supervision/Education/Administrative Activities:

  • Supervises assigned nutrition educators; approve timekeeping including vacation, personal, and sick time requests
  • Establishes connections with program staff and services that are offered through new or current programming. Supports staff in defining priorities, deadlines, and resolving any program challenges.
  • Assists with program hiring and oversees training and orientation of new program staff.
  • Provides mentoring to staff to foster professional and personal growth.
  • Conducts annual performance reviews and check-ins with direct reports, assists direct reports with goal setting, and ensure that reviews are submitted in a timely manner.
  • Maintains an ongoing record of meetings, minutes, email and phone communication with existing and prospective partners to document CACFP program activities and progress.
  • Assists with drafting of quarterly and/or annual reports of program activities, attendance and evaluation/outcomes and submits to supervisor for final review and submission.
  • Reviews and ensures lesson materials and handouts written by program staff are culturally appropriate for diverse audiences and follow SNAP-Ed approved curricula.
  • Support Program Manager with contractual and grant-funded project obligations to ensure overall goals and objectives are met.
  • Communicate formally on a bi-weekly or weekly basis with supervisor.
  • Potential opportunities to attend meetings and conference.
  • Other relevant duties as assigned.

Skills:

  • Must have strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to make presentations that engage diverse groups of people.
  • Must have strong ability to establish priorities, work independently and within a team, and meet competing deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Strong culinary/cooking demonstration background
  • Self-motivated, hard-working, and dependable.
  • Ability to anticipate challenges, develop and implement proactive approaches to mitigating challenges, and problem solve.
  • Experience with Food Processor Software or similar software for recipe/nutrient analysis
  • Must be proficient in Adobe Acrobat and Microsoft Office, including: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Publisher. Must have ability/desire to learn new software as needed.
  • Current ServSafe Manager certification or ability to acquire certification within 60 days of hire.
  • Familiar with and comfortable working in urban or rural settings and with diverse groups of people.

Preferred:

  • Knowledgeable in the USDA Food and Nutrition Service – Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Education (SNAP-Ed).
  • Knowledgeable of public health theories, principles and practices.
  • Experience in data collection/entry and evaluation monitoring.
  • Interest in community gardening/farming.

Experience:

  • Three years experience managing and/or coordinating community-based programs/activities with multiple stakeholders.
  • At least one year of experience formally or informally supervising program staff.
  • Three years experience and strong working knowledge of programs that focus on nutrition, health promotion, and/or public health programming.
  • Experience working with youth and/or adults from under-resourced communities
  • Experience monitoring and evaluating program processes and outcomes

Education Requirement:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in nutrition, dietetics, public health, health education, or culinary arts.
