Job description

The sous chef assists the head chef in all phases of food preparation and production, and should have at least two years' experience working in a fast-paced, but small cook-to-order kitchen. You will thrive here if you are a people person with a love of cooking and community, have a sense of humor, and are a creative thinker who is able to both take directions and change them quickly when needed.

Responsibilities include:

Assisting in food preparation in collaboration with head chef.

Maintaining the highest standard of quality in preparing and plating of food.

Working cooperating, collegially and cohesively with waitstaff, baristas, bartenders, and management,

Ensuring that food is prepped as necessary for the next shift

Taking inventory and ensuring proper labeling and storage of ingredients to ensure freshness.

Keeping kitchen clean and complying with food safety standards.

Monitoring and maintaining food preparation equipment.

Offering suggestions and creative ideas that can improve upon the kitchen’s performance.

Assisting in training of new employees

Understanding and following all recipes, policies, and procedures.

Performing opening, closing, and cleaning duties as instructed and according to company guidelines.

 

Qualifications include:

Knowledge of various cooking methods, ingredients, procedures, and best practices

40 hours week with two days off each week

Food safety experience, ServSafe certification preferred

Strong attention to detail

Ability to listen and communicate effectively

Ability to work under pressure and deal with uncertainty while maintaining humor

A passion for good food

Customer-focused and community-oriented
