The Master Homesteader is the facilitator of the garden and the garden experience.  

This position calls to respectfully and knowledgeably guide the garden and garden staff towards goals shared by: the Master Homesteader, the Farm Executive Director, the Assistant Farm Manager, and Farm Interns and Staff.

Essential Functions include, but are not limited to the following:*

  • Work with kitchen staff to grow and harvest for the farm’s needs

  • Design and lead student garden educational/experiential activities (this includes training Farm Interns to lead and help create activities)

  • Garden design, utilization and implementation. From short to long term goals (goals are to be established in conjunction with Farm Executive Director, Farm Manager, and Interns)

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required: 

  • Understanding the basic principles of farming (compost, feeding/ tending/ harvesting plants, building beds).

  • Ability and desire to learn and retain information during training.

  • Ability and desire to research needed information for growing, tending and processing garden produce. 

  • Social skills to work responsibly, respectfully and joyfully with staff in and out of the garden.

  • Experiential education teaching skills to effectively and joyfully engage with the students in teaching/ sharing the majesty as well as importance/ functionality of the garden.  

  • Creativity and openness to design / change the garden curriculum as well as garden design to continually expand the garden’s yield and majesty.  

Education and Experience:

  • BA or BS degree or 1-2 years of related experience and/or training.

  • Training/ basic knowledge in Permaculture Design is highly preferred

  • Must hold valid driver’s license for at least the past 3 years and have a clean driving record

Compensation this position is : hourly, varies DOE, $16.00 - $16.00 Application instructions
