ABOUT THE JOB

We are looking for a bright, mission-oriented individual to join our LA office as our Product Buyer for CA. You’ll be adding your own passion and expertise to an existing and seasoned product team in NY, with an unparalleled knowledge of fruits, vegetables, and specialty produce - united in its commitment to building a new supply chain, with your role being instrumental in continuing to develop a unique sourcing network in our ever-evolving CA regions, as well as the West Coast.

 

Collectively, we have spent over fifteen years building our own supply chain, uniting over 600 growers and producers across Europe & the US. You will take on a fundamental role in that sourcing and purchasing process, ensuring its ongoing efficiency and success. You’ll be an excellent communicator, bringing a dynamic energy to our tight knit team.

 

You’ll be confident in juggling several projects at once and thrive when no two days are the same. Willing to create solutions and always looking to go beyond what you already know. Most importantly, you’ll be driven by a genuine commitment to changing the way food is being farmed & supplied.

 

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE

  • Developing and nurturing mutually beneficial relationships with growers and suppliers
  • Work with the seasons, planning and communicating with internal and external stakeholders as products come in and out of season
  • Weekly tasting of seasonal produce from different growers and vendors
  • Identify and resolve supply chain issues
  • Manage bulk produce purchasing, quality inspection, supervise weekly freight deliveries and perform logistics planning as required
  • Communicate with farmers weekly, learn of new offerings, seasonal updates
  • Engage in weekly meetings and collaborate with our NY teams to identify high-priority farms and products, negotiate target product prices and terms to reach company goals.
  • Maintain product and seasonal calendars and grower profiles with up-to-date pricing, seasonality, unique specifications for all products, and farmer certifications
  • Travel to assess and onboard new farms, groom existing relationships in CA and other West Regions as required
  • Manage administrative transactions and track expenses and costs of goods and services
  • Able to lift/load up to 50-lb cases of product and to drive refrigerated van on product pick-up/drop-off day/s when required

 

EXPERIENCE & SKILLS

Our ideal candidate is super passionate about fresh produce, solution-driven, understands the need to play hands-on, multiple roles and has the ambition to grow into a management role. As such, our successful candidate will have the following traits:

 

  • Minimum 2-3 years fresh produce purchasing/procurement experience
  • Ability to hit the ground running - you will enjoy working autonomously as well as part of a tight-knit team
  • Capacity to learn and execute daily, weekly and seasonal procurement strategies
  • A thirst for growth with a roll-up-your-sleeves attitude and mentality
  • A sophisticated palate for outstanding produce quality and flavor
  • Established relationships with SoCal/NorCal farms is a plus
  • Strong interpersonal, negotiation and communication skills (both written and oral)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, priority on Excel, G-Suite
  • Candidates will be asked to show proof that they can legally work in the US
