POSITION SUMMARY
The Steward works to make sure that the entire event process can function smoothly, including anticipating needs & issues. From picking up ingredients and supplies for prep to managing the dishwashers and re-organizing the van after an event and everything in between, the Steward is an integral part of the core Snap Pea team. Much of the work happens behind the scenes, ensuring equipment & ingredients stay organized at all times, but the role is just as critical during events making sure the team has everything it needs to be able to succeed.

--------ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES--------

ENSURING THAT SNAP PEA STAYS ORGANIZED AND CLEAN
Responsible for ensuring that dishes are washed in a timely manner after events and ensure that all tools and ingredients are returned to their appropriate homes and par levels. You will schedule and manage dishwashers to do the actual dishwashing, but would need to step in to do the dishwashing if needed.
Wash and fold dirty aprons and dish towels to ensure that there is always an ample supply of clean linens at every event and prep shift.
Maintain cleanliness and organization of the van and all storage areas.

PREP
Be on site for all prep shifts, typically Thursdays 10-6, and may occasionally include other days of the week. This may also include the occasional solo prep shifts.

EVENTS
Be on site for events, typically around 80 events per year.
Perform pack out for off-site events, including picking up the van and loading all food and supplies into it.
Help to set up the kitchen and plating area once on site for an event and assist in the execution of remaining prep, plating of food, service, and breakdown
Pack up the van after events and return unused ingredients to the kitchen

TRANSPORTATION
Be the primary driver of the Snap Pea van, including to and from all events
Maintain the Snap Pea van including scheduling of routine maintenance, registration and filling the gas tank
Picking up ingredients from farmers markets, vendors, farms, stores (either in the van or in personal vehicle), most are close by, occasionally a few hours away
Receiving deliveries at the kitchen as scheduled by Manager
Collecting necessary ingredients or supplies from storage in advance of prep or events

INVENTORY
Receiving ingredient and supply deliveries at our kitchen.
Develop and maintain order in all organizational systems & storage areas
Log inventory and order replacement ingredients, tools etc as necessary
Continually improve inventory systems

A Steward should:
Be extremely organized & a stickler for details
A safe, responsible driver with driver’s license and clean driving record
Be able to work quickly, cleanly & efficiently, with a sense of urgency & purpose
Follow all safety and sanitation policies when handling food and beverage
Thrive on giving & receiving feedback in a mutually respectful context
Be respectful towards the product, equipment, and other people
Be a team player, including excellent communication, both written and verbal
Be able to put in long hours if needed (a shift runs over, and we need to finish)
Be comfortable working in a fast paced kitchen environment, while keeping cool
A self-starter who can keep themselves on track to fully complete tasks

Events Schedule & Hours
The role is expected to work AN AVERAGE of 30 hours/week, although some weeks will be 0-5 hours, and others may be well over 30, depending on our event schedule. As long as all projects are complete and there are no scheduled shifts or events, the Steward is free to spend the remainder of their week as they wish (often 2-3 days of the week off).

VACATION
Snap Pea typically takes at least 8 weeks of paid vacation throughout the year. Snap Pea will do its best to accommodate reasonable additional requests for time off outside of these scheduled breaks.
