Job description The Community Engagement and Outreach Manager will be responsible for managing Spanish and English language community engagement and outreach for Farmshare Austin’s Fresh for Less programs, which include Curbside Delivery and Mobile Markets. The goal of these programs is to provide fresh, seasonal produce from Texas farms at accessible prices in identified communities that have been selected due to socioeconomic and/or geographic barriers to accessing fresh food.

The Community Engagement and Outreach Manager will be primarily responsible for:
1) developing and carrying out a Fresh for Less outreach and engagement strategy,
2) serving as primary project manager for and staff liaison to the Fresh for Less Community Advisory Committee,
3) customer service, including assisting customers through Farmshare Austin’s Curbside Delivery and managing customer referrals,
4) representing Farmshare Austin and Fresh for Less at educational workshops and other community events,
5) creating/managing appropriate and compelling written and visual outreach communications for a variety of platforms in both English and Spanish, and
6) providing ongoing Spanish translation assistance for Fresh for Less communications, including flyers, webstore copy, and more.

They will engage directly with Food Access Program customers at Mobile Markets, via social media, and through texting campaigns. They will also work closely with organizational partners to develop and implement a collaborative outreach plan to promote Fresh for Less. In addition, they will identify and work with other community partners working in food access and food justice to establish and grow relationships. The Community Engagement and Outreach Manager will attend public community meetings to further develop relationships and presence with the communities that Fresh for Less works with. As a member of the Food Access Team, this position also may also include general programmatic support for Food Access programs, including order packing and operation of weekly mobile markets and/or curbside delivery routes.

All Farmshare Austin employees may be expected to help on the farm occasionally. This may include harvesting, weeding, and packing produce or other manual tasks. Employees may also be expected to attend and/or assist with Farmshare community events and fundraisers and other related assignments as necessary.

Required skills/experience:
  • Fluent in Spanish and English
  • Able to create basic but aesthetically appealing outreach content using Canva, Google Suite, Microsoft, and/or Adobe programs.
  • Previous experience with project development and management
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; able to communicate on behalf of Farmshare Austin in appropriate tone/voice on various platforms
  • Passion for food access and commitment to building an equitable food system
  • An understanding of the concepts of institutional and structural racism and bias and their impact on underserved and underrepresented communities, or a commitment to learning
  • Ability to move equipment weighing up to 50 lbs and work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions
  • Flexible and solutions-oriented approach to challenges
  • Ability to communicate cordially, professionally, and effectively with the public
Pay for this position is $44,000-$52,000/year DOE plus veggies and employer benefits.  Compensation this position is : salaried, 35,568* - 50k Application instructions
