Job description
Duties & Responsibilities
Under the direction of the Pastry Chef, manage kitchen staff, including providing necessary direction and training
Schedule employees to ensure that the kitchen is adequately staffed at all necessary times
Prepare a variety of French baked goods (Tarte Tropezienne / Charlotte / Macarons / Madeleines…)
Make sure that all pastries that leave the kitchen meet defined taste and design standards
Ensure that the kitchen operates efficiently and professionally
Maintain kitchen inventory and order supplies
Confirm compliance with all sanitation and health and safety standards
Receive stock and store food in designated containers and storage areas in an organized and timely manner
Fill in for the executive chef when needed
Flexible working hours, including weekends and evenings, when necessary.
Requirements
- Keen attention to detail.
- Works as a team
- Training at a culinary institution or similar type on the job training
- Certificate in culinary arts, pastry-making, baking, or relevant field preferred
- 2 or more years’ experience working within the food industry as a Pastry cook, Sous Chef, , Baker, or relevant role.
- Working knowledge of French baking techniques and the pastry-making process.
- Creative ability with artistic skill in decorating cakes and other desserts according to company standards
- Keen attention to detail.
- In-depth knowledge of sanitation principles, food preparation, and nutrition.
- Capable of working in a fast-paced, production environment.
- NYC Food Handler’s License
