The National Sustainable Agriculture Coalition (NSAC) is seeking a highly organized Operations Manager to support our work to build grassroots power, achieve policy goals, and advance racial equity in agriculture and food systems. The Operations Manager will be responsible for key organizational support and coordination functions across administrative, events, and team & culture while bringing a racial equity lens to all their work.
This is a full-time, exempt position that offers benefits as outlined in the employee handbook and reports to NSAC’s Coalition Director. This position is based in our Capitol Hill office at 110 Maryland Avenue, NE, Suite 209, Washington, DC. NSAC operates with a flexible work policy allowing for remote work when possible; this position requires an in-office presence a minimum of 25% time to maintain core administrative functions.
POSITION DESCRIPTION
Administration
-
Manage and track incoming and outgoing invoices, bills, subscriptions, and payments, and assist with budgeting, donations, and contract administration

Manage NSAC’s DC office space, including supplies, mail, maintenance requests, telephone, and liaising with property management

Maintain equipment/supplies inventory, manage procurement, and assist with equipment and technology maintenance

Support file management & records retention, including assisting in the maintenance of employment information, maintaining appropriate confidentiality

With the Coalition Director, liaise with organizational consultants, contractors, and vendors, using independent judgment when needed
Team & Culture
- Apply an equity lens to all work, and strive to advance racial equity both within the Coalition’s internal processes and externally through its public facing efforts

Provide administrative support for staff, including scheduling meetings and travel, reserving event venues, assisting with organizational calendars and communications

Support organizational hiring processes as needed, including recruitment, training, and onboarding scheduling; manage annual Fellowship hiring timelines, cross-team coordination, and administrative onboarding

With the Coalition Director, prepare materials for and support regular staff meetings and assist in developing staff-wide timelines, projects, and policies
- Provide support to the Coalition Director and fiscal sponsor for the development and implementation of workplace policies

With the Coalition Director and fiscal sponsor, assist in stewarding employee benefits and insurance enrollment, renewal, and review processes
- Assist the Coalition Director and fiscal sponsor in labor relations, including preparing and maintaining data and information related to contract negotiations, keeping minutes, and assisting management with grievance investigation reports
Membership Management

Support annual coalition membership renewal process, including dues processing, in partnership with grassroots staff
Events

Manage and execute site logistics, including hotel/venue selection, catering, and printed materials for staff retreats, ad hoc meetings, and lobby days

Support key internal planning for two coalition membership meetings annually, including venue/site research, scholarships, and liaising between staff, members, and contractors for agenda development

Demonstrated commitment to and understanding of racial equity and an enthusiasm to apply this understanding to their role

Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a high level of attention to detail

Proficiency in using Microsoft and Google Suite

Understanding of general finance and budgeting principles

Excellent time management skills, capable of planning, prioritizing, and troubleshooting efforts in an ongoing manner and working on variable, sometimes fast-paced project timelines (including Congressional schedules)

Exceptional initiative and interpersonal skills, including the ability to work independently and collaboratively, listen well, build trust, and model healthy conflict resolution

Comfortable working with staff to ensure familiarity with organizational policies / benefits and supporting feedback processes

Proven experience in project management

Willingness to work in person at the NSAC office at least 25% of the time

Willingness to travel domestically 2-4 times a year

Ability to work effectively with, value differences of, and incorporate the experiences of diverse groups of individuals, including race, ethnicity, age, gender, sexual orientation, religion, ability, and socioeconomic circumstances
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
Not required but will help the candidate succeed

Proficiency with Wordpress, Adobe CreativeSuite, EveryAction, or comparable CRMs

Training and experience with facilitation, conflict resolution, and/or consensus building processes
-
Background with grassroots advocacy campaigns (e.g. field organizing, lobby days, etc) or large, multi-organization grassroots coalitions, including membership management
-
Fluency in a language other than English
SALARY AND BENEFITS
NSAC offers a competitive non-profit salary and benefits, dependent on qualifications and experience, $68,000 - $78,000+.
This position offers benefits (as per the employee handbook), including generous vacation and other time-off policy, health, dental, and long-term disability insurance, contributions after two years in a retirement plan, and financial support for professional and personal development.
