We’re looking for a highly motivated, creative and organized full time Quality Assurance Technician who shares our vision, values, and love for ice cream to join our operations team based in Portland, OR. This position will be directly responsible for ensuring compliance to company policies and procedures, food safety standards, sanitation and government regulations. It will require collecting samples, weighing, measuring and documenting quality standards. This will report directly to the Quality Manager. Special projects or sampling may require adjusted start and end time. Some flexibility in your schedule is a must. Responsibilities:

  • Ensure compliance of quality programs including GMP & HACCP throughout the facility. 
  • Ensure departmental SOPs and SSOPs are being adhered to.
  • Collect samples and perform microbiology 3M petrifilm plating as well as interpret results. 
  • Work directly with production managers to establish open channels of communication between the Food Safety Team and Production. 
  • Perform various facility and product checks throughout the day. 
  • Maintain QA data and spreadsheets as well as report analytical feedback from data collected. 
  • Responsible for performing environmental microbiological swabs according to schedule or as assigned. 
  • Responsible for verifying calibration of thermometers, scales and other production equipment. 
  • Performs various weights, measures and sample collections of raw materials and finished products. 
  • Monitors and assists production employees to ensure sanitation requirements and monitoring activities are met during production. 
  • Assist in the corrective and preventive action process by working with other departments to develop effective solutions to problems. 
  • Special projects as assigned. 
  • Great team attitude and ability to work without direct supervision. 
  • Respond to the production schedule for quality assurance testing as needed this will require some flexibility in scheduling. 
  • Be able to support a proactive approach in maintaining quality
  • Regularly stands, walks, bends, lifts, and moves frequently during a shift working in temperature-controlled production areas, coolers, and freezers with the ability to lift, push, pull or maneuver 15-30 lbs. 


Qualifications:

  • 2-3 years’ experience in food manufacturing, dairy, and fermentation industries in a QA/QC roll. 
  • Knowledge of food manufacturing policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of HACCP, SQF and FSMA regulations. 
  • Familiar with general Microbiology and aseptic sampling 
  • Able to function well in a high paced environment. 
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong computer and statistical analysis skills. 
  • HACCP certification 


Education:

  • B.S. in Biology, Food Science, Microbiology, or related field preferred
