Company description Love & Carrots is DC’s foremost urban farming and edible landscaping company. We design, install and maintain organic urban farms, vegetable gardens, and native landscapes across DC, MD, and VA. Through our garden care & coaching program we provide expert garden maintenance, guidance, and education in more than 150 gardens every year, helping connect people to their food and inspiring local food production and farming inside the beltway. Your Role: 

We are seeking an organized and efficient multi-tasker to join our Love & Carrots in-office team on a part-time basis. The Administrative Assistant will help the in-office team make sure office operations run smoothly and effectively. The Administrative Assistant will provide assistance with various administrative office tasks and installation operations, and will actively seek to make the company more efficient every day.


The ideal candidate is passionate about urban agriculture, well-organized and diligent, and excited to take on a range of responsibilities in a small but fast-growing company. They know that working at a small company requires wearing many hats and are fully prepared to step up to help wherever they might be needed. The Administrative Assistant role has potential to be a growth position-- where additional time and critical responsibilities could be added in the coming seasons according to the candidate’s strengths. There are also opportunities for this role to be combined with part-time roles on the installation or gardening crews.


Please note, as a small company we are always working together to keep our office organized and clean. Even as this role evolves, there will be an expectation of continued administrative support.


Note: This position is being offered as either a part-time administrative-only position, or a full-time position if combined with a role on the urban gardener or installation team for qualified applicants. Your Duties and Responsibilities:

Administrative Support:

  • Scans and files documents
  • Orders and maintains office supplies
  • Runs clerical errands (post office, bank, Costco, etc.) 
  • Helps keep headquarters organized and clean
  • Drafts and edits company documents, including contracts and other content

Installation Operations Support:

  • Organizes perennial orders for installations
  • Picks up installation items as needed
  • Assists Manager of Installation Operations with installation tasks as needed
  • Performs data entry and record keeping
  • Assists with long-term operations projects meant to increase operations efficiency

Greenhouse & Nursery

  • Assists with opening and closing the greenhouse throughout the spring
  • Responsible for watering, or checking irrigation systems during the workday
  • Oversees plant deliveries for installations and manages quality of perennial nursery plants until they are planted in landscapes
  • Potential to assist with the on-site staff garden throughout the growing season


Skill Requirements:

  • Experience as an Office Manager, Assistant, Project Coordinator, or relevant position
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills 
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented; able to handle an array of diverse, time-sensitive tasks
  • Ability to proactively resolve issues as they arise
  • Solutions-oriented and self-motivated in a collaborative atmosphere
  • Strong sense of accountability, responsibility, and integrity
  • Current driver's license (ability to pick up deliveries or run clerical errands is part of this position, so access to a vehicle is preferred).
  • Basic knowledge of gardening and vegetable growing is a plus


The Installation and Administrative Assistant is expected to be proficient in:

  • Google Suite (Google Calendars, Gmail, etc.)
  • Excel/Sheets
  • Microsoft Suite
  • QuickBooks
  • Survey Monkey
  • DropBox



  • Part-time:
    • Tuesday/Thursday or Wednesday/Thursday  7:30AM - 6PM
  • Full-time (if combined with Garden or Build role):
    • Monday - Thursday 7:30AM - 6PM
  • Position starts at $20/hr and is commensurate with experience
  • Health and Dental insurance after, 401k, paid time off, and mileage reimbursement for driving personal vehicle
