Oxbow connects to the public through special events, educational programs, volunteer opportunities, and a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program. 

Job description The Seasonal Farmers Market & Farm Stand Staff assists the Farm Stand Coordinators and Farm Stand Lead in all aspects of Farmers Market & Farm Stand vending. This position is responsible for booth set up and customer relations, direct sales and cash handling, and promotion of Oxbow (Membership, Programs and Events) at the Farm Stand and two weekly farmers markets.


JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Farmers Market & Farm Stand Vending

  • Perform direct retail sales to customers, with a focus on cultivating positive customer relationships
  • Manage inventory of product on display and restock, cull, and reorganize as needed throughout the market day
  • Maintain accurate cash handling
  • Promote the features and benefits of Oxbow-grown produce and native plants
     

   Farmers Market Specific (Every Saturday and Sunday, June – September)
 

  • Participate in loading/unloading Oxbow vehicle with all produce, materials, and display supplies needed for the Farmers Market
  • Present produce and native plants in a visually appealing way – thinking about abundance and color
  • Set up and tear down Farmers Market booth and displays in a timely and organized manner

             
   Farm Stand Specific (Open every Wednesday – Sunday, year-round)
 

  • Participate in loading/unloading Oxbow vehicle with all produce
  • Present produce and partner products in a visually appealing way – thinking about abundance and color
  • Assist with day-of support for Farm Stand Programming (small workshops/events)
  • Assist with weekend tasks around the farm (watering prop-house/opening and closing greenhouses)
  • Care for native plants at the Farm Stand, including watering, pruning and weeding

 

Sales and Inventory Recordkeeping

  • Throughout the market day, track when each produce item sells out and report to Farm Stand lead
  • Participate in reporting of sales accurately, in line with Oxbow’s Cash Handling procedures
     

 General

  • Ensure Farm objectives, strategies and messages are aligned with and supportive of Oxbow’s mission and strategic plan
  • Represent Oxbow in a positive, professional manner, engaging with and educating visitors about Oxbow’s mission and programs
  • Perform other duties, as needed and assigned by the Farm Stand Lead
  • Work in adverse weather conditions (Farmers Markets and Farm Stand are outdoor locations)
     

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Excellent customer service
  • Available to work 16-20 hours weekdays (options for morning, afternoon and evenings) and weekends (morning and afternoon)
  • Physical dexterity and agility necessary in all aspects of the job for safety and efficiency
  • Consistent attention to detail
  • Able to lift heavy and awkward objects, up to 50 pounds repeatedly
  • Ability to take direction, ask for help/clarity, and accept constructive feedback on work and technique
  • Ability to give direction and act in a lead role when necessary
  • Ability to work independently and within a team
  • Clear, consistent communicator
  • Flexible, creative, and able to perform well in diverse conditions and under pressure
  • Must have WA State Driver’s License
  • Experience driving large vans and box trucks (desired)
  • Ability/ willingness to learn to drive manual transmissions (desired)
  • Experience in or passion for product design or presentation (desired)
  • Environmentally conscious, interested in organic farming, cooking (desired)

COMPENSATION:
This is a non-exempt seasonal, part-time position, paying $21 per hour. Oxbow offers paid sick time off, accrued bi-monthly. Compensation this position is : hourly, $20/hr + Application instructions
