Who We Are:
We’re a grassroots organization that launched in December 2015 with support from community partners. The Council serves all of Northwest Indiana with an emphasis on regional partnerships and collaboration. We build and strengthen relationships to support Indiana local food, education, and take action for a resilient food system for all involved.
Mission/Vision:
The NWI Food Council cultivates a just, thriving and regenerative food system for all in NW Indiana. We do this through programs and projects that equally value farm viability and just food access, with an eye towards a community driven regional food system.
We envision a local food system where everyone has affordable access to nutritious food that is grown by regional producers using regenerative practices. Through community-based strategies, we work towards collaboration, healthy ecosystems, equity and resiliency for all in NW Indiana.
Job descriptionPosition Overview:
The Equity and Engagement Coordinator will lead as a resource for building equity and accountability for the networks and organizations supported by the NWI Food Council, specifically our work with the Regional Food Systems Partnership Grant (including the Indiana Value Chain Network and launch of Partners in Food and Farming). Additionally, the Coordinator will support the continued development of organizational equity and accountability, and support efforts to embed reparative frameworks in all council programming. The ideal candidate will excel in this role by building meaningful, lasting relationships and serving as a reliable connector and bridge to stakeholders in the value chain, their respective organizations, and networks.
Funding from an RFSP grant will support the first 18 months of this position. Though the position will be housed in NW Indiana, this role will involve support for our statewide network of partners, as well as specific projects with a statewide scope such as the community food charter and launch of Partners In Food and Farming. Through the first 18 months of the position the Coordinator will work with the NWIFC staff and board to co-create a long range vision and strategy for equitable engagement for the organization. In hiring an Equity and Engagement Coordinator, the NWI Food Council reaffirms its commitment to establishing and growing lines of communication and trust across diverse food system actors.
