Company description

Oak Rose Farm is a certified organic vegetable and berry farm located in Hood River, OR. We have been growing since 2016 and serve our local area through the Farmer’s Market, Restaurants, Natural Groceries, and Caterers. We cultivate about 2 acres of intensively cropped land in open field, an unheated high tunnel, and a heated greenhouse.
 

Our farm crew is small, works closely with each other, and is focused on constantly learning and improving our skills. We encourage curiosity and continuous improvement, and strive to communicate effectively so that expectations are clear and achievable. We aim for quality and great flavor in all that we produce and are motivated by the joy we bring to our customers. We work hard, and love what we do.

 

 

Job description

The Field and Pack Area Lead will be the “right-hand-man” of the farm. This person works throughout most of our production season and participates in a full range of tasks including care of perennial crops, seeding, greenhouse work, transplanting, weeding, pruning, trellising, irrigation, harvest, washing, packing, and farmer’s market. This position will assist in leading the crew in field and pack area activities and may fill in for the owners if needed.

Responsibilities

  • Outdoor field production work including bed preparation, seeding or planting, weeding, pruning, trellising, and harvesting
  • Participate in irrigation set up and irrigation management
  • Set up, use, and clean the wash/pack area for different crops, following the farm’s food safety practices
  • Guide the field and pack crew, when needed, including observing work quality, pacing, and other areas that may need support

Minimum Qualifications

  • One full season of work experience (paid or intern) on a commercial farm
  • A good work ethic- commitment to a job well done
  • An interest in farming, produce, or plants

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to work in a small team and also independently
  • Comfortable providing leadership and guidance to crew
  • Good listening and communication skills
  • Ability to follow directions, including attention to detail
  • Punctuality and reliability
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to commit to the season
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Food safety training a plus
Compensation this position is : hourly, $15-20/hr Application instructions
