Arcadia Farm Camp Manager
Arcadia seeks a Manager for our summer Farm Camp, a day camp at our farm in southeast Fairfax County. The Manager will manage the Farm Camp program and supervise a small team of Farm Camp Counselors during 5, one-week sessions at our working farm on the grounds of Woodlawn, a National Trust Historic Site, in Alexandria, VA.
This is a part-time position in the spring transitioning to a full-time position from May-August. These terms are flexible; we will work with the right candidate to make the schedule work for them.
Seeking an enthusiastic, organized individual, passionate about working with kids & who enjoys being outdoors in a farm & garden setting. Camp counselor or camp management experience is preferred. Farming/gardening experience is preferred, but not required. We will provide garden training. Comfort with basic food prep required; there are hands-on cooking activities with the kids.
At Arcadia Farm Camp, we connect kids to where their food comes from through hands-on farming, cooking, and eating experiences. Campers will develop an understanding of the origins of food, seasonality, sustainable agriculture, land conservation &culinary; arts. Our goal is to help create the next generation of sustainable farmers, chefs, and eaters.
This position has the potential to grow into a year-round staff position as On-Farm Education Director.
Start date: ASAP
Part-time becoming full-time during the summer
● Pre-Camp Preparations: Feb - May; part-time, primarily remote
● Counselor Training: late June (Mon-Fri) from 9am-4pm
● Farm Camp: July / August (Mon-Fri) from 7am-5:00pm (Fourth of July week, flex time)
● Some evenings and weekend hours may be required
Compensation: $25/hour

Requirements:
▪ Basic First Aid/CPR Certification (Adult/Children/Infant) or ability to obtain certification;
▪ Background check
▪ COVID vaccination & booster
▪ 21 years old +
▪ Must be available full-time May - August 14th, 2020
▪ Ability to get to Arcadia Farm – public transport is not easily accessible
Preferred Qualifications:
▪ Experience working with children ages 6-11
▪ Experience in a management role
▪ Excellent judgement, reliable and dependable
▪ Ability to work independently, efficiently, and cheerfully manage a varied slate of responsibilities, and the confidence to seek support and help when needed
▪ Ability to remain flexible and make quick decisions as they arise
▪ Willingness to take initiative and work varying hours
▪ Clear written and verbal communication
▪ Enthusiasm for and experience in outdoor education, sustainable agriculture, or food education
▪ Passion for inspiring children’s discovery and fun on the farm
▪ Ability and enthusiasm to spend the camp day outdoors, in both shade and full sun
▪ Willingness to get dirty, have fun outdoors, work with animals, and work in the garden
Responsibilities:
▪ Oversee camp registration
▪ With support from Arcadia, interview and hire farm camp counselors
▪ Train, manage, and inspire a small team of Camp Counselors with positivity and respect
▪Manage scholarship outreach and application process
▪ Manage farm camp to ensure that all aspects of camp run smoothly and efficiently
▪ Manage communication with campers’ families in the weeks leading up to and directly following their week
▪ Manage weekly paperwork, including permission forms, schedule/activity materials, meal tickets, and registration forms
▪ Communicate professionally, in-person and via phone, with Counselors, Farm Camp families, and visiting educators
▪ Ensure Counselors are equipped with all necessary materials at the beginning of each week; this includes managing a budget for purchasing of items before camp sessions
▪ Ensure that each camp day runs smoothly, overseeing setup and clean up, keeping track of time, notifying counselors when it is time to change activities, coordinating with visiting educators if necessary, and making group announcements in the morning & afternoon
▪ Support Counselors in leading an age-specific group of campers and managing behavior
▪ Participate in & support program evaluation
▪ Assist in continual program development & implementation throughout the summer.
▪ Ensure that high standards of camper safety are maintained
▪ Ensure an efficient & open line of communication with Arcadia leadership
