Development Director Berkshire Bounty

  • Date Posted January 26, 2023
  • Location Great Barrington, MA
  • Category Nonprofit
  • Job type Part-Time
Company description

Berkshire Bounty is a 501(c)(3) food rescue organization dedicated to collecting, purchasing and delivering nutritious food to emergency food distribution programs countywide. We build capacity, close gaps and improve the quality of food for the food insecure population.

Using over 100 registered and active volunteers, Berkshire Bounty collects donated food through a network of 14 retailers and delivers that food to 20 distribution organizations that directly serve the community including food pantries, public schools and senior centers. We collect and deliver nutritious food six days per week and 12 months per year, creating a year-round predictability for all distribution organizations and the people they serve. Berkshire Bounty also operates a robust Food Purchase Program. Through this program, we use a significant percentage of donated funds to purchase nutritious food including meat, dairy, eggs, fresh produce and culturally appropriate items to build capacity and improve the quality of food choices at our partner distribution sites. In 2022, Berkshire Bounty collected over 325,000 lbs. of nutritious food, the equivalent of 270,000 meals for the local food insecure community. During that period, Berkshire Bounty purchased a total of $245,843 worth of food, representing 87% of our total expenditures.

Berkshire Bounty has seen explosive growth in the six years since its inception, in large part due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Our ability to mobilize volunteers, collaborate across sectors and solicit donations led to our critical success in building capacity in food distribution organizations as the numbers of food insecure community members soared.
