ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the general supervision of the Community Food Retail Manager, the Community Food Retail Coordinator will support the implementation of RiseBoros network of Farmers' Markets and co-plan the re-launch of our farm share distribution program, Cosecha. The Community Food Retail Coordinator will coordinate day-to-day aspects of the markets and perform administrative duties. Additionally, the Community Food Retail Coordinator will also play a significant role in community-facing work, including implementing outreach campaigns and building and maintaining relationships with vendors. In time, they will further assist with the distribution, record keeping, marketing, and other logistical responsibilities for Cosecha. Specific duties and responsibilities include:
Planning and Administration
- Oversee the yearly farmers market permit and application process
- Assist with evaluating program efficacy and support with annual planning
- Coordinate day-to-day program activities, including sales, record keeping, coordinating educational programming, and vendor reimbursements
- Participate in monthly Our Food staff meetings
- Process reimbursements and incentive payments for participating farmers and vendors as needed
- Maintain weekly accounting of market finances and cash deposits
- Manage inventory control of market produce and market materials
- Coordinate weekly with farmers and program partners
- Assist with organizing and executing outreach events and marketing campaigns
- Maintain regular communication with chefs and assist with cooking demonstrations i.e. prepare printed materials, send produce lists, offer program updates, etc.
RiseBoro Farmers Markets
Market Days
- Load and transport market inventory, set up and breakdown tents/tables, merchandise local goods, support vendors
- Process SNAP to EBT token redemptions, along with card and cash transactions
- Supervise and assist with record keeping and distribution and collection of EBT tokens & Health Bucks, as applicable
- Train and supervise volunteers and Youth market staff
- Oversee the management of Social Media postings (Instagram)
Beginning in 2024: Cosecha
Distribution Day
- Transport Cosecha bags to Community Farm, set up and break down of distribution space
- Process SNAP, cash, and card transactions; distribute shares, and collect share orders for distribution
- Oversee the implementation of surveys and any other data collection
- Assist chefs with set-up and breakdown of cooking demonstration space
COMPETENCIES
- Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and verbal/written communication skills
- Conversant in Spanish required; Fluent in Spanish preferred
- Familiarity with Bushwick, Brooklyn, NY area preferred
- NYS drivers license required; ability to drive box truck preferred; commercial driver's license a plus
- Ability to lift up to 50lbs
- Ability to stand for an extended period i.e. 6-8 hours
- Ability to be available for work in all weather conditions
- Early morning and weekend schedule availability is required
- Experience processing cash, EBT/SNAP, and/or credit card transactions is preferred

- Ability to maintain accurate records; prior experience preferred
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly MS Word, Outlook, Excel, and/or Google equivalents
- Possess a positive attitude, entrepreneurial spirit, and superior customer service (for market customers and vendors)
- Demonstrated commitment to supporting communities that have experienced systemic oppression and bias (i.e. people of color, LGBTQ+ people, immigrants, justice-involved persons, etc.)
EDUCATION EXPERIENCE
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Bachelor's degree and one (1) year minimum of retail, food, or related experience preferred
- NYC Food Protection Certificate a plus
