Job description

Position Summary:

The Kitchen Lead works with the café team and management to support the effective and efficient daily operations of the Riverview Terrace Café. Café service is Friday through Sunday in April and November, and full café service hours are 11:00 am – 3:00 pm, 7 days per week, May through October.

Essential Functions:

  • Works assigned shifts in the Riverview Terrace Café April through November. Shifts will be variable, including prep time and clean-up, and will include weekends;
  • Attend Operations team meetings;
  • Oversee group lunches and in-house food service;
  • Lead the preparation of menu items with a focus on quality and consistency;
  • Provide direction and supervision to café staff;
  • Work to create a cohesive café team;
  • Maintain a clean and orderly kitchen that adheres to health department regulations, including:
    • Cleaning and organizing food storage areas and floors;
    • Cleaning and maintaining food service stations and kitchen equipment;
  • Inventory management, including:
    • Placing product orders through vendors;
    • Rotating stock to limit product spoilage;
    • Receiving deliveries, ensuring the accuracy of invoices and pricing;
    • Waste monitoring and reduction;
  • Communicate with the Director of Programs about operational, staffing, or budget issues; and
  • Other related assignments as necessary

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 1 or more years of kitchen experience;
  • Experience training personnel;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills;
  • Success working with diverse groups of people with varying levels of culinary proficiency;
  • An understanding of local food sourcing and seasonally focused cuisine;
  • Bartending license or ability to obtain; and
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule based on business needs and seasonality.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Management experience;
  • Food safety manager certification or willingness to obtain one;
  • Experience in a non-profit environment;
Working knowledge of the life and work of Frank Lloyd Wright, Taliesin, and the mission of Taliesin Preservation. Compensation this position is : hourly, varies DOE, $19.00 - $21.00 Application instructions
