Company: Established in 1988, Capriole is nationally recognized as a pioneer producer of fine, artisan goat cheeses for a specialty, very quality-focused market. We’re still a farm-based, family business with a small, dedicated workforce that requires ongoing education and experience in the production of safe and exceptional chevres. With the retirement of our founder, we require an individual with cheesemaking, management, and especially food safety/quality skills and experience. 

Job Summary:

The Primary Cheesemaker/Creamery Manager at Capriole is responsible for directing and monitoring daily production of our cheeses to maximize both raw materials and staff, and produce products that meet company, customer, and regulatory expectations. 

Hours are basically 8-9 hour days 5 days a week, including occasional weekend days and overtime. Hours are subject to changes relative to milk delivery and cheese production and are to be managed by the position hire along with the General Manager.


Job Duties:

  • Update and develop food safety and quality programs and processes.
  • Responsible for compliance with GMPs, HACCP, regulatory agencies, and quality monitoring and assessment.
  • Manage employee work schedules and production based on production goals of the General Manager.
  • Supervise new hire training, scheduling, job assignments, performance evaluations, retraining, employee development and accountability, and recommend for hiring and dismissal.
  • Direct team of 6-10 employees to meet production goals and company standards relative to cost, efficiencies, waste, safety, and productivity. 
  • Maintain a supportive, positive, and goal driven environment among employees.
  • Resolve problems and minimize operational issues that result in negative performance.
  • Assess and develop cheesemaking practice, production goals, and processes that address performance efficiency, cheese quality and yields.
  • Supervise and complete daily production activities, review results, and establish targets and corrective procedures.
  • Work with General Manager and current cheesemakers to maintain supplies, products, equipment, and services necessary to meet production schedules.

Requirements:

  • Experience in developing, directing, and implementing food safety and HACCP programs
  • Experience in cheesemaking and food science principles.
  • Experience managing people and ability to work with employees regardless of position in company.
  • Organized and effective balancing and prioritizing of workload.    
  • Good written and verbal communication
  • Able to perform and problem-solve in a multi-faceted environment under pressure.
  • Able to generate material in Microsoft Office and Windows-based computer applications.

Compensation

this position is: salaried, varies DOE, $50,000.00 - $65,000.00
