Position Title: Digital Media Intern

Term: Fall Semester 2016

Hours: 15 hours per week

Pay: $13/hour

Location: Montpelier, VT

Main Focus of Internship: Digital Media, Communications, PR, Marketing

Position Description: The Vermont Agency of Agriculture, Food, and Markets seeks a qualified intern to help us tell the stories of Vermont agriculture utilizing digital media tools. This position will work closely with the Director of Communications to develop video and photography assets related to Vermont’s Food System and Agricultural Economy. Interns in this position will hone their digital storytelling skills, utilize social media to share these digital stories, and gain a broader understanding of how new media can be strategically leveraged to advance communication goals.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Ability to shoot and edit digital video (camera skills, Final Cut/iMovie editing)
  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign)
  • Strong written & verbal communications skills (interviewing video subjects, developing interview guides)
  • Strong social media skills (Facebook, YouTube, Twitter)
  • Responsible, organized, self-motivated
  • Interest in Communications, PR, Public Service/Government, Agriculture
  • Driver’s license (will be required to drive to filming locations)

Expected Internship Outcomes/Benefits to Student:

Upon completing this internship, the individual will have gained in-depth experience working as part of a fast-paced communications team. They will get a close-up view of Vermont agriculture in action by visiting and interviewing local farmers. They will have developed a portfolio of professional videos and photography that they can use to demonstrate their competency to future employers. This internship will serve as a strong foundation for students seeking a future career in Communications, PR, Digital Media, Marketing, Journalism, or Agricultural Development.

Other considerations:

  • Work can be performed remotely and also in the Montpelier Office (at least 6 hours per week in office required)
  • Flexible work hours are available
