The Center for an Agricultural Economy in Hardwick, VT, is a nonprofit organization that hosts the Vermont Food Venture Center where food entrepreneurs incubate their businesses. Our theme is working lands, working people, and local food. We also work with our community's schools, the food pantry, and others to promote food justice and independence. We own a 15-acre property where we host 40 community garden beds, a community hoop house, and the farmers market each Friday afternoon in season.
CAE is seeking a passionate community organizer to help create a new organization aimed at lasting systems change for the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont. This person will work with our team in the coming year to seek new leaders and organizations to join us. These efforts will lead to a founding event to start a new organization. This position is half time, working closely with our sponsoring committee representing four Northeast Kingdom organizations and congregations, and with our mentor and consultant Ken Galdston of the InterValley Project based in Massachusetts. Our aim is to understand, and give voice to, the needs of those not always heard in political debates such as our low-income, elderly, and other vulnerable populations. This is a chance to make real, lasting changes for our region – the most remote and least understood corner of Vermont. Deadline to submit a cover letter and resume is November 4.
