Located in Three Oaks, Michigan (90 miles from Chicago) on 28 acres, Granor Farm grows organic vegetables, flowers and grains. We are near many vibrant small towns, beaches, dunes, State Parks, wineries and breweries. Granor Farm was founded eight years ago and currently includes two modern barns, one with a large two ­bedroom seasonal sleeping loft, a greenhouse, four hoop houses and a modern two­ bedroom farmhouse. We are certified under the Michigan Agriculture Environmental Assurance Program and Ohio Ecological Food & Farm Association (USDA organic certification).

Job description

Granor Farm is seeking a Lead Grower to help operate our organic family farm. We sell our vegetables through our CSA program, on-site farm stand, farmers market and wholesale clients. We are currently expanding our grain growing operation for our partnership with a local organic distillery. We offer a children’s farm camp during the summer and host many workshops and events at the farm.  


Job Description:

The Lead Grower (full time) will be responsible for participating in all aspects of farm operations with a focus on field work. This includes transplanting, seeding, weeding, IPM, watering, harvesting and post-harvest handling. The Lead Grower should be able to train and manage a crew of 6-10 seasonal workers and interns. This person will report to the Farm Manager and will provide support to the operations of our CSA program, farmers market,  farm store and wholesale accounts.  A qualified candidate will have experience with season extension growing in greenhouses and hoop houses. Lead grower will be responsible for daily care of hens and ducks at the farm as well as daily farm irrigation and temperature control of season extension structures.


Qualifications:

The qualified candidate will have 3+ full seasons of farming experience (preferably on a Certified Organic farm) with practice in intensive organic growing methods. A Bachelor’s Degree in environmental sciences, agriculture, biology or related fields is preferred.  A valid driver’s license, tractor experience and the ability to regularly lift 50 lbs. are required.  A qualified candidate will be outgoing, positive and energetic with a strong work ethic, often outdoors in all conditions, and occasionally for long hours (seasonal). Must have crew management experience and genuinely love working with other people. Desire to become a part of the Harbor Country community and dedication to commercial organic vegetable production a must.


Compensation:

This is a year-round salaried position with on-farm housing available. Salary range: $35,000-$40,000. Generous benefit package includes health insurance with HSA plan, matching 401K (after one year of employment), paid vacation and cell phone plan.
