The Opportunity:

Fair Food Network seeks an outstanding leader in program design, implementation, and evaluation to join the organization during a period of exciting growth. The Senior Director of Programs will provide leadership and unity to our programs to increase our impact nation-wide. The Senior Director will oversee the integration and growth of flagship programs such as Double Up Food Bucks and the Michigan Good Food Fund, in addition to growing our pilot programs and leading the strategic expansion of FFN’s programs across the country. While this position will not oversee our impact investing functional area, the Senior Director will work closely with the Fair Food Fund Director to ensure alignment between the two areas of work. The Senior Director will report directly to the Chief Operating Officer, in addition to partnering and frequently collaborating with the Chief Executive Officer. This is a full-time position that would be based at FFN’s headquarters in Ann Arbor, MI.

The primary functions of the Senior Director of Programs include, but are not limited to:

• Serve as a member of the senior leadership team and work closely with the COO and CEO to drive organizational strategy and vision
• Lead all programmatic activities for the organization and deliver streamlined design, implementation, expansion, and management of FFN’s programs within the context of the strategic vision laid out by the CEO
• Develop and expand new programs and partnerships, including a new retail grocery focus area that leverages the success of existing programs, organizational knowledge, and staff expertise
• Identify potential synergies and opportunities for collaboration between programs
• Serve as a spokesperson with external stakeholders, including policymakers, donors, partners, and the media, in both one-on-one and public speaking formats
• Advance FFN’s leadership nationally in the good food ecosystem by serving as a strategic community resource where such leadership and thought partnership is invited
• Supervise, coach, and develop the programs leadership team in their abilities to set and achieve goals, be effective managers of staff, and be accountable for program budgets
• Develop and manage our strategy for evaluation practices across organizational program areas; ensure evaluation results, feedback, and learning are incorporated into program design and implementation
• Oversee program area input into proposal writing, budgeting, and reporting, including bringing a cross-program perspective to inform this work
• Ultimately responsible for creation and execution of and spending against program budgets

Candidate Profile:

A successful Senior Director of Programs will have the skills, expertise, and experience to both serve as a strategic resource to partners and lead FFN’s programmatic work toward deeper impact in the future.

The Senior Director of Programs will also possess the following:

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience and at least seven years of relevant work experience
• At least five years of experience managing direct reports and contractors, with mentor/team building orientation to people management
• Proven ability to develop program implementation plans and manage projects to achieve desired results, skillfully managing a large number of components and stakeholders
• Demonstrated food system and/or public health expertise with the ability to serve as a strategic resource to others engaging in this work
• Demonstrated experience and success collaborating with diverse communities, including listen-first approach, facilitation expertise, and commitment to building up existing wisdom
• Experience working in the policy arena and knowledge of how to support and collaborate with policymakers to achieve policy goals
• Ability to take initiative; a strong entrepreneurial mindset
• High level of flexibility with ability to work and thrive in a fast-paced environment
• Ability to lead by implicit and explicit authority; consensus builder
• Ability to evaluate program opportunities for strategic impact and organizational fit
• Polished written and verbal communications skills; experience serving as an external spokesperson
• Experience managing budgets and developing such expertise in direct reports
• Sense of humor, innovative, and a proclivity toward opportunity and optimism
• Ability to work nights and weekends as needed; ability to travel extensively across the state and occasionally to events and partner meetings across the country
