Company description

Turner Farm is a diversified organic seaside farm on the island of North Haven in the Penobscot Bay of Maine. We grow over two acres of MOFGA-certified organic vegetables, herbs, and flowers, utilizing passive solar hoop houses and heated greenhouses to support year-round production. We also raise pigs in the woods and operate a pasture-based cow dairy. The dairy provides milk for our own North Island Creamery, which specializes in fresh artisan cow cheeses, yogurt, and raw milk. We sell all of our farm products at our farm stand and the North Haven Farmers’ Market during the summer months, and several popular restaurants on North Haven Island feature Turner Farm ingredients.

Job description

We are hiring for a seasonal crew member position for the 2017 growing season with a focus on vegetable production. This position will start in April and go until October. Applicants must be able to commit to the full growing season. Compensation includes $10/hour plus housing, vegetables, and staff discounts on meat and dairy products.
 

Qualifications

• One year of organic vegetable production experience required
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Demonstrated ability to maintain positive attitude and work hard in all weather conditions
• Previous experience living and working with others in a farm setting appreciated
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs regularly and perform a variety of tasks efficiently
• Comfortable engaging farm guests and community members

Regular responsibilities might include: seeding, watering, weeding, harvesting, sales at markets, washing and packing orders, livestock chores, and going to the beach. Compensation this position is : hourly Application instructions DeadlineMarch 01, 2017
