Apprentice Coffee Roaster Beanstock Coffee Roasters

  • Date Posted February 03, 2017
  • Location Eastham, MA
  • Category Culinary / Production
  • Job type Part-Time
Company description

Beanstock Coffee is an ever-evolving specialty coffee roasting company located on the outer reaches of Cape Cod. We started as the Cape’s original independent specialty roaster/coffee shop in a funky, sub-ground level space of a Cape Cod restaurant/Inn in Wellfleet with a small one pound roaster serving scratch baked goods and select specialty coffees. Today we are an established specialty coffee roaster/wholesaler coming off of our most successful year and looking for someone who wants to be part of our next stage of growth (lots going on -- an exciting time!)

Job description

First and foremost you must love coffee. Not just a good cup of joe in the morning, but real interest in what makes great coffee from seed to cup.  This is a position that requires real passion, focus, adaptability, creativity and enthusiasm. The specialty coffee industry is a fun, spirited, hard-working, socially conscious, exacting, ever-evolving, worldwide business.  Be excited. The apprentice roaster starts at approximately 15-20 hours a week, but based on new business coming on board we believe this position will be 30-40 hours in just over a year.  Experience is not required as we prefer to train someone from scratch, but we would be more than happy to hire someone with roasting experience if they are the right fit for Beanstock. You need to be able to lift up to 30 lbs comfortably and repeatedly.  You must be okay standing for most of the day. This is a hard-working and often, fast-paced job.  Figure at least two months of training before roasting on your own. The roasting position will grow into a dedicated position as we continue to grow as a company. You will also be staging and taking part in cuppings, help receive green coffee deliveries, help develop roast profiles, assist in warehouse operations and more. There is plenty to do here, so be a worker. And you should want to be part of something, because we want YOU here. And what you can uniquely contribute that will make us better as a team.  You can be a Harvard grad or a middle school dropout who has found his/her mojo. Just be good. Not just worker good, but human good too.  That’s important.  We don't suffer fools here, but we do love finding superstars where no one else looked.

Applicant should:

  • Have a valid driver’s license with a good driving history.
  • Have good, everyday computer skills
  • Have an excellent sense of smell and tasting palate
  • Be willing to travel to company-financed educational events
  • Be friendly and able to communicate well with both customers and fellow employees

Beanstock Coffee Roasters are Fair Trade and Organic Certified and is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
