- We are working to develop our pork and syrup operations to a point where they are financially, environmentally, and socially sustainable.
- The farm exists on an old summer camp property and is in its third year.
- In the medium-term we are working towards a goal to plant thousands of perennial fruit and nut trees and plants in an effort to be part of a perennial plant based food system.
- The mission of the farm is to connect and inspire people with our food and our actions.
The farm is hiring a summer intern for the 2017 season.
Dates: 5/15 - 8/18 are the rough dates of start and finish. We are somewhat flexible on the beginning and end dates.
Hours will typically be Mon-Fri 8am - 5pm with occasional weekend responsibilities. One week off (no stipend) - intern's choice.
Job Description:
Pig Farming: Taking care of pigs: watering, feeding, fencing and other trouble-shooting.
Pork and Syrup Selling: Talking with individuals, grocers and restaurants to grow Cragged Mountain sales.
Other Farming: Taking care of homestead garden and engaging enthusiastically with potential farm development projects like tree plantings, infrastructure projects, and sap line maintenance.
Property Maintenance: The Farm on Cragged Mountain is part of an old summer camp property with a summer camp program for children which runs in July. There are regular maintenance projects to keep things running smoothly or to triage problems as they arise.
Tech and Sales: Helping maintain and improve farm social media, website, direct-to-consumer and wholesale accounts, and general promotion.
The basics are that you will be working alongside Nick, the full-time farmer, to maintain, improve, and sell with increased individual responsibility as the season progresses.Job Requirements:
- Must be enthusiastic, hard-working, kind, and curious.
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs into a truck bed throughout a day.
- No previous farming experience necessary.
- Interest in the local food movement
- Tech/photography skills are a plus.
- Must pass a basic background check.
- Must have a working driver's license.
- Must be willing to work and live in the same space as a children's summer camp and community during much of the summer.
Compensation:
$200/week + room and board
