We are a small yet mighty chocolate and granola company in the heart of Vermont. We use the highest quality ingredients, one of which is our wild Ecuadorian and Nicaraguan chocolate grown by landowning farmers.
We are a ten-person team that has been making excellent food in Vermont for fourteen years, always curiously, obsessively sourcing our favorite local maple syrup, maple sugar, fresh cream, butter and goat caramel. We are of course GMO free, and very proud to be part of America's first state to have passed a food labeling law for GMOs.
Our current owner and founder is politically active, taking part in local government processes around progressive food and workplace legislation. Our workplace environment is warm, inclusive, productive and sometimes irreverent. We expect everyone to do their best, to be truly connected to their work, and to communicate well with others. In exchange, we offer a "Euro-style" vacation benefit, especially designed to encourage the individual development of long term teammates.
We are in the process of transitioning to a democratic worker-ownership model by 2019 and are seeking the involvement of those interested in participating in the organization as slow-buy-in worker owners. What is required is NOT a large financial infusion, but rather a willingness to adopt a full accountability to the profitability of the organization and the willingness to learn and study the patterns of the business that lead to financial gain for all workers. Are you physically able and culinary inclined? Be on the team that bakes the best granola in Vermont. Sweetened with only pure Vermont maple syrup. A local tradition since 2003, Nutty Steph's Vermont Granola is subjected by our many loyal customers to rigorous quality standards. Experience with baking granola (or other food) is a plus.
The job will be 8-20 hours/week, depending on the chosen candidate, and may also involve chocolate making, packaging, shopkeeping or other duties as properly aligned with the skills of the worker.
Start as a worker, and be part of our transition over the next 2 years to become a Worker Owned Cooperative. Eligible candidates will be interested in democratic business models. Rather than a single owner dictating everyone else's value, we will (by 2019) become worker owned, and everyone's earnings will increase according to the profits of the business. If it sounds a little scary, don't worry! We engage in monthly meetings to help learn together about how to best make our business thrive.
