Company description Just seven miles from downtown Boston on the border of Jamaica Plain and Brookline, Allandale Farm is nestled on 130 acres of rolling hills, woodland, and farm fields. We cultivate 30 of those acres to grow over a hundred different varieties of vegetables, fruits, and cut flowers. We sell our produce through our on-site farmstand, our CSA program, and to our wholesale customers. In addition to our own produce, our farmstand is stocked with a wide variety of locally produced goods from some of the best food producers in the region. Our Garden Center offers an expansive seasonal selection of our own annual and perennial plants, trees and shrubs, fruit and vegetable starts and supplies for the home gardener. Job description We are looking for a responsible, hardworking, friendly Garden Center Specialist to join our retail team. This is a Part to Full time (24-40hrs) position available for the 2017 season (April through June). All applicants must be able to work at least one weekend day.

Responsibilities include:
● Ensuring that all plants are being properly maintained through watering, pruning, and cleaning (greenhouse, nursery and retail)
● Assisting customers with: plant selection; gardening questions and concerns
● Moving plants from production to retail and creating displays.
● Receiving and merchandising deliveries of plants
● Reports to Garden Center Manager and Garden Center Assistant Manager

Qualifications include:
● A strong work-ethic, good attention to detail, and strong time management skills
● Strong plant identification, plant maintenance, and pest and disease identification skills
● Willingness to participate in staff trainings and to continue their own horticultural education
● Retail experience with proven customer service skills a plus
● Experience with proper planting techniques and organic maintenance strategies
● Able to comfortably lift 50 lbs and work outside in a physically demanding environment for 8-10 hours
● Current Valid Driver’s License and ability to drive manual vehicles/forklift preferred
● Previous garden center/nursery experience preferred
