Farmers Market Interns: Community Farmers Markets

Company description Community Farmers Markets ("CFM") is a leader in Atlanta's local food community. Our mission is to develop a local food infrastructure for long-term sustainability and meaningful community impact. Our purpose is to preserve, root, and grow a diverse local food culture by maintaining an authentic space for all people to share community, fair food, and healthy lifestyles while providing a sustainable living for producers who steward the earth. CFM currently operates the East Atlanta Village, Grant Park, Decatur, Ponce City on the Beltline, and Fresh MARTA Farmers Markets as well as educational outreach programs and events. Internship description The Farmers Market Intern will join CFM at an extraordinary time in our organization’s development, as we expand to serve more communities throughout the Metro Atlanta area. The Farmers Market Intern will work with the Market Managers, Ambassadors, and Assistants, as well as the Market Community Group, to plan and implement engaging at-market programming with a focus on community building through joyful and sustainable activities.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Work with Farmers Market Staff and the Market Community Group, to plan and implement engaging at-market programming with a focus on community building through joyful and sustainable activities.
  • Engage with local stakeholders to determine current barriers to success and develop strategies to overcome these barriers.
  • Work with other team members to develop and implement marketing strategy for at-market programs.
  • Help coordinate volunteers for market programs and schedule or manage at market activities as needed.
  • Track and evaluate programs.
  • Attend market weekly throughout the season (April-December).

Expectations:

  • Knowledge of the community, the market vendors and products, and the CFM Mission.
  • Report any issues with customers, vendors, or volunteers to the Market Manager immediately.
  • Possess an understanding of market policies and be able to confidently communicate them.
  • Be a face of the market and act professionally and respectfully at all times (this includes no cell phone use, appropriate attire, and a pleasant attitude).
  • Attend every market for the season. If unable to attend, inform the Market Manager at least 10 days in advance and try to secure a replacement.

Qualifications:

  • Must be an extremely responsible student in good standing (high school or college preferred) and a member of the market community.
  • Maintain a positive and friendly attitude towards vendors, volunteers, and customers.
  • Must enjoy working with children and have the ability to get along well with diverse groups of people.
  • Ability and willingness to learn.
  • Ability to act independently as well as take direction from others.
  • Ability to work outdoors in any weather and to lift 50 pounds.
  • Strong interest in farmers markets, the local food movement and the mission of Community Farmers Markets.
Market Locations and Times: 
  • Decatur Farmers Market:
    • Wednesdays from 4 to 7pm, year round.
    • Saturdays from 9am to 1pm, from April 8th to December 16th.
  • Grant Park Farmers Market:
    • Grant Park, Sundays from 9am to 1pm, from April 2nd to December 19th.
  • East Atlanta Village Farmers Market:
    • East Atlanta Village, Thursdays from 4 to 8 pm, from April 13th to December 14th.
  • Ponce City Farmers Market on the Beltline:
    • Tuesdays from 4-7pm, from April 11th to November 14th.
