Food/Gourmet Buyer Ball Square Fine Wines

  • Date Posted April 24, 2017
  • Location Somerville, MA
  • Category Business
  • Job Type Full-Time
Company Description Ball Square Fine Wines is an award-winning, boutique wine shop committed to bringing customers a rare opportunity to explore fine wines, craft beers, specialty spirits, and gourmet delicacies. We pride ourselves on our accessibility; we hand select offerings to excite both novices and connoisseurs alike, and continue to grow our community of enthusiasts. Our knowledgeable, warm, and engaging staff are always available to answer questions and guide customers to find the perfect products for their occasion. What we do and how we do it literally draws passersby in and has earned us three recent Best of Boston Awards (2011 & 2013 Best Wine Shop, 2015 Best Spirits Shop). Job Description The gourmet buyer here is a great opportunity for someone who is passionate about food and also wants to learn how wholesaling, buying, and sourcing works in the retail food industry. Despite being a small company, the job offers a little bit of everything for a professional foodie outside of a kitchen/restaurant context - you would be responsible for curating the selection of the entire dept, including a cut-to-order artisan cheese case, a selection of cured meats, retail cheeses, cheeseboard accoutrements, gourmet crackers, chips, european imports, you name it! It is a very rewarding job if you really like to seek out new, exciting unique fine foods from around the world. We also do a bit of catering, which lets you flex your food pairings and your visual eye - we make some beautiful and unique cheese/antipasto/party platters for our clients who are very happy with our work.

This is a small store and we do all help each other out with stocking, delivery, and day-to-day tasks, but for the most part you are a one-person show in the gourmet foods department, receiving, stocking and warehousing your goods, setting pricing, handling invoices and communicating with your vendors. Sales is a large part of the job too, knowing how to describe foods in an appealing and knowledgeable way and delivering good customer service is what helps move product through the store. Compensation this position is PAID: salaried, varies DOE, $40,000.00 - $50,000.00 How to apply
